We keep our motorhome on a storage site about 10 to 15 miles from where we live. We tend to have one long trip in the winter and then a few shorter ones throughout the rest of the year but there are periods of maybe up to two months when we don’t use it. So far we have not had a problem with the 12v battery but I am conscious that it is left idle for maybe too long. I have at home an unused battery solar charger which plugs into the OBD to trickle charge the batterY. Wonder if anyone does the same. A concern I have, maybe unfounded is that the LED on the charger may actually drain the battery more than charge it. Welcome any thoughts?

The LED on the charger is ridiculously low power.

Mine lights up in the dark from the street light outside.

Not a concern.

What wattage panel? Mine is 10w which is useless in winter.

I used a couple of those small panels, stuck on the inside of the windscreen with suckers. The windscreen was south-facing, so the panels were tilted towards the sun. I found the one connected to the starter battery kept it topped up, but the one connected to the two leisure batteries couldn't keep up and the voltage gradually dropped. It was better than nothing, though. It extended the period where the leisure batteries needed recharging. Mind you, they were only 2.5 watts each, so if yours is 10W it will be much better.

Absolute minimum 20 watts, 50 preferred. Solar controller also needed above 10W
