Since 2014, changed our MH 6 years ago
Our first leisure battery lasted three years March 2018 to March 2021 in our Swift Bessacarr 560L. I replaced it with a YPC100-12 Yuasa YuPower Cyclic VRLA 100-12 battery, at a cost of £155 delivered including VAT. This one has also lasted three years and now the cost is £315 delivered from the same company. Is this typical of battery price inflation in three years? I don’t really understand batteries and last time we just replaced with something that seemed to have a similar size and specification as the original fitted one. It was a pig to replace as so heavy and inaccessible, so this time I’m going to pay someone to do it as my husbands strength is weakening as he’s got older. We have to keep the van in a storage compound with no electricity and drive it 30 miles every three weeks in winter. Other than that it has a solar panel to top up the battery.

Try Tanya batteries, usually very competitive pricing

It is Tayna quoting over £300 now as per screenshot

Try bms at tewksbury they are good for prices and warranty.( Battery megastore)

Edit - wrong battery - didn't realise yours was an AGM

I have a Varta. This one is similar spec to yours but is longer. Not sure what you size is. Might be worth looking at different sizes if possible.

its not just inflation, its all other associated costs such as shipping,(these items are heavy) , energy rising costs, wage increases, etc etc.

Conversely LiFePO4 prices have reduced drastically.
I paid £300 ea h for 2 x Trojan 27 gel (84 ah). Gave me a useable 84 amps @ 50%

They are now £388 each. £776 for 84ah

They weigh 56kg

I have switched to lithium

Fogstar 105ah - gives a useable 100ah

Paid £299 delivered in the sale.

It weighs 10Kg

Rhythmic Battery £224.99
Lithium batteries are dropping in price spotted this on Hot Uk Deals

Inflation wise - I bought my Leisure battery from Tanya in June 2021 at £172. It's now £185. That seems reasonable inflation for 2 and a half years. Certainly a lot less than actual inflation over that period which should make it more like £203.

Ok thanks for all this, I hadn’t considered a smaller footprint battery.

I heard on R4 the other day that due to the current situation in the Middle East with shipping being attacked, a container now costs an additional $4000 each to transport the additional distances and takes much longer. That cost will be added to the commodity end price hence prices going up again 😝

I found it hard to believe but on R4 at the weekend a shipping agent said that when a container ship has to re-route around the Cape it adds more than £2million to the freight cost of importing from the Far East.

(Ah, Otter Spotter heard the same report).

But divide that by millions of items on board and if no major profiteering is involved it should add little to the item cost.

Just bought two

L35-115 YUASA LEISURE BATTERY 12V 115AH - £105.02 each

to replace my two

NUMAX LV26MF SEALED LEISURE BATTERY 12V 95AH - £97.99

Which lasted 9 years as far as I can tell, but 6 years in my ownership. They have been looked after by my 100w solar panel during this time and it’s worked so well in the last couple of years we’ve only bothered with EHU when we need to top up our ebikes. This has involved many trips up to 2/3 months each.

I’m not very knowledgable on batteries and I’ve bought the slightly larger 95 v 115ah hoping this might prevent the small amount of battery anxiety my wife suffers!

its adding £1500 to 40 foot containers im bringing, which is a shame, as contaner prices have only recently dropped from the super high prices post covid.
Each container has between, 40,000 and 100,000 items in, depending on the product, and travels an extra 4000 miles ish

It isnt just the distance/time either, its the seas around the cape that generate more fuel needed and the higher risks of damaged cargo.

works out at a hundred quid a container extra?

This^^^^^^

Shouldn't do. Even if only 10k containers at 2million extra it only adds 200 quid?

** & to the OP .Your battery costs 231,55€ here in spain.

Im gonna check with the lads, I didnt even query it, nice one Gus, Ill report back.

And ive also had another thought, the saving of Suez toll fees versus extra milage costs ?

Notice the difference in cost and longevity of different batteries. The AGM are a bad choice of leisure battery. Stick to budget lead acid wet batteries for cheapness or lithium fit and forget

It wouldn’t be a bad idea of starving the canel and it’s Country of money and go the long way for a while.

Maybe they will sort out the rebels in Yemen and surrounding area then 😊

I didn’t realise I had an AGM battery fitted. I think when we replaced the original battery, we just ordered the exact make and model that was in there already. We just replaced it ourselves and didn’t get any advice at the time. I think I’m hearing we could just use a cheaper non-AGM wet battery instead.

Just one thing to remember and do if your new batteries are vented to get battery venting tubes and take them to the outside through floor

I’m looking to replace my Exide 019 wet battery, Tanya wanted £155 and Battery Group £90

I recently bought from the battery group there was a problem I would never buy from them again there customer service is diabolical

the other thing I like is the apps and functions.

Full Monitoring and you can switch the charging off and the discharge if you need to work on the electrics

I know about the forum rules etc, but I do get peeved when people (not pointing any fingers !) persistently refer to TAYNA Batteries as "Tanya" batteries. Tanya actually own the leather processing plant next door !:LOL:
