That looks right, it only puts in a trickle charge so as not to deplete the leisure battery.

I think it switches on when it senses a 0.7 volt difference.

What’s that display for? The leisure battery or the engine battery?

They are designed to charge the starter from the leisure battery.

Sounds like it's working OK, 12.6v is fine for the starter, and yes the red light never stays on for long.

ahh thanks ,,is the state of charge ok showing 50% ? or is it just because its so slow at 1amp ,?

As far as I know that is just an approximation from the voltage, I have relied on the battery master for keeping starter battery OK for years now and ours would still start down to 12.2v so 12.6v is fine for starting which is all it has to do really.

I guess also it depends on what is measuring the voltages and how accurate they are. Best way is to use a multimeter and compare readings to the system readings.

Installed one a few weeks ago and that's exactly how mine works. The short illumination of the 'red' after unlocking will most likely be down to an initial pre start call on the starter battery from things like the central locking, the 'welcome' lights, the turning off of the alarm etc which in my case is enough to take the voltage down just enough to start off the trickle charge via the Battery Master.

thanks ,,that is exactly what i suspected ,,i would like to have seen the battery state of charge up from 50% after on hook up for a few days ,,but i might be wrong ?

I suspect your van battery may be faulty.
If it was mine I’d fully disconnect the vehicle battery and bench charge the battery for 24 hours then let the battery stand for an hour and retest the battery with a decent battery tester, not just a multimeter.
