I’m a newbie
I have a 2005 Hymer motorhome with a Schaudt EBL101. When I'm on EHU it charges both the leisure battery and the starter battery. The starter battery is on a trickle charge according to the owners manual.
My question is, is it ok to leave the MohO on EHU for say three months over winter, or will this result in overcharging the batteries. I do have a 100W solar panel on the roof which is connected to the leisure battery only.
Should I switch off the EHU and rely on the solar panel to keep the leisure battery charged and invest in a modern trickle charger/conditioner (optimate or similar) for the starter battery.
My preference is to have a setup that I can just leave for 3 months without having to worry about the batteries.

Thanks

Schaudt often have a disconnect switch for long term storage.

I have never used this as we usually use all year

Is this something I should be doing? Our MH only gets charged when we take it out, which is very rare. Other than that it gets a charge from the solar but, at the moment, there's not much sun....even in France.

We leave our Hymer hooked up all the time when its on the drive,The batteries have always been conditioned by the charger and been in tip top condition..

Thanks for the info. I suppose my question revolves around whether the on board charger in the EBL 101 (dating from 2005) is high tech enough to leave on without worrying about the batteries, or should I go for a modern charger/conditioner. .

I leave my van charger off all winter even though it's a smart charger. If the battery develops a shorted cell again the charger starts charging at full power, 10 amps in my case. Last time it did it in 2019 the battery got hot but fortunately in my incredible wisdom I fitted the solar charger battery temperature sensor and it shut down.

Now I just have an optimate 2 connected continuously, it is only capable of delivering 0.8 amps 👍

BTW. The batteries are AGM Lead acid
