Heh All from Spain,

Hope you're all well.

We had our bathroom door handle catch break the other day and now we have the door swinging all over the place - not great. I've been trying to remove the handle but haven't had too much luck. It appears there is a small hole on the base of the handle which I believe contains an allen headed grub screw, however,
its so far inside, I can't make it out. I've tried using different sized allen keys but they seem to either be too small or too large.

Has anyone had a catch go on a door handle which needed removing and replacing? I think there might be a spring perhaps that needs replacing.

Please see pictures so you can see what I'm blathering on about.

Any help/ advice greatly received, thanks

Simon

Think your problem may be that the grub screw has gone walkabout and that is causing the problem. Not on the door but had that problem with the toilet roll fitting on ours.

grub screw may be a star drive one. If it is missing the handle should just pull off

It works by a magnetic catch.Simply loosening the screws or taking the catch a bit closer to the fixed latch can fix it. There is a small grub screw holding the handle.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for trying to help. There's no magnetic catch unfortunately, its mechanical. What size do you reckon the grub screw is? If I can get the handle off I can get the mechanism out and find out why it no longer opens/closes.

Cheers

It's definitely magnetic. Try undoing the two screws holding it in the door. Moving it closer to the catch might help. I never had it off but I would try either a small Allan key or a smaller torque driver. Even a flat blade of the correct size might d you.

I had the same problem on a Burstner Ixeo. The magnetic catch can be massively improved by buying small magnetic rectangular magnets from Amazon to fit in the catch recess, check the size. Once installed the catch engages every time with a strong click.

Thanks for all your responses guys.

We've found somewhere willing to take a look for us. My money is it being on a grub screw with a funny sized allen key.

I'll report back (hopefully) later today with what was the cause.

It was a grub screw that needed removing. Once that was done the door handle, followed by mechanism could be removed. The spring which was broken could then be removed and a new piece of metal/wire installed to fit.

We now have a working door latch/handle :)

THanks for all your thoughts and hope this helps someone else out who may have similar problem on Burstner t685 2014
