We set off from Scotland on Tuesday heading for the Balkans. We are now in Munich having stopped off in Cambridge, Luxembourg and Stuttgart. Yesterday we were not blessed with the greatest of weather or travel in Stuttgart with the whole U bahn system coming to a halt leaving us struggling to get back to the camping aire in Fellbach. A reasonably short 2 hours 30 minutes drive to Munich. We are splashing out on a campsite for a couple of nights. The weather is fabulous and Munich did not disappoint great sights and good restaurants plus the locals are extremely welcoming.

We’ve had a problem with our tap in the bathroom since we arrived in Cambridge last Tuesday and I phoned a guy outside Ljubljana who fixes caravans etc to ask if he would look at it today. We arrived at his site and there was no one around I waited a few minutes and he eventually appeared on a balcony holding a coffee and saying that he might not be able to look at it and if we wanted to stay just pick a place. The up shot was we decided to move on to Zagreb. On our way we pulled off the motorway and found a wee cafe bar which did a €7 lunch including soup, salad and schnitzel and chips. We are parked up in a fabulous wee site with a bus and a tram ride into the city. We spent this afternoon exploring some of the old town which is really nice.

Our wee campsite has had an influx of visitors today mostly from the Netherlands and one English van. We’ve had a very enjoyable day exploring Zagreb and are now ready to move onto the Dalmatian coast. We need to find a site that has washing facilities for clothes because the next few days are supposed to be great for drying clothing. It’s often the simplest of things that determine when and where we move on to.

Following with interest as we’re planning something similar.

Have fun, watching with interest, glad you enjoyed Munich...

We are staying about an hour outside the city by public transport. I have to say that the trams have been fantastic however the tourist bus service leaves a lot to be desired. The buses are seldom running to the published timetable even from the terminus.

We have arrived in Zadar after a reasonable journey from outside Zagreb. The campsite is huge but has facilities for clothes washing and drying as well as an indoor swimming pool.

Will you be visiting the sea organ? And what’s the range of temperatures over 24h?

We visited the sea organ this afternoon. The video I took is too large to post here but it was a strange experience. The temperatures have been warm in the sun today reaching 20 degrees but cool to cold out of the sun which has played absolute havoc with my planning whether or not to take a jacket. Being a Scot of course I took one. A low of 9 degrees overnight and the forecast for tomorrow is 19-20 degrees.

I got a Hibby discount from a waiter in one of the cafés overlooking the Adriatic. He was very knowledgeable about Scottish football and was delighted with Hibs recent victory over Hearts.

Also planning to go to the Balkans in Sept/Oct. Will be interest to see where you visit when you get down there.

What you should have done in Stuttgart is visit the Porsche Museum. A wonderful few hours out of the rain!

I visited the Daimler Benz museum 24 years ago when I took a school group on an exchange with a school in Horb. Thanks for the tip anyway.

Many thanks for the posts. I'm looking forward to see where you get to. :)

If I can make a small suggestion please post your photos full size not as thumbnails. It has a much greater impact. :)

I’ve just found out how to post them on this site.

A day exploring the delights of Zadar. We enjoyed a lovely pizza at Bruschetta restaurant. The house red was delicious and chilled just how it should be served on a hot day. Heading to Sibenik tomorrow and then going along the Dalmatian coast.

After a fairly fraught morning we have arrived in Splt. Our campsite in Sibenik retained our passport on checkin and forgot to return them to us on checkout this morning, we only found out when we arrived in Split. Needless to say the campsite in Sibenik’s phone was not working and we had to go back there to get our passports. When we got to the reception my wife went into get the documents and the receptionist handed over them without a word, that was a big mistake! Mrs Leith Laddie was not a happy lady and left him in no doubt about how she felt. So 2 hours wasted plus fuel and road tolls, enough to break a Scotsman’s heart.

Yesterday the weather was glorious as was Split with so many breathtaking historic buildings round every corner. I’m sure my pictures won’t do justice to what we saw. Today the weather has changed and it’s cold, windy and very wet. A day of relaxation and generally tidying up before we head for Dubrovnik tomorrow. Our campsite is excellent for getting into the city by bus. We are on Camping Stobrec with a bus stop right at the entrance and €2 pp each way.

Just outside Dubrovnik at Camping Pod Maslinom 18km in on a bus. The site is clean with great facilities and the only transport issue is that the bus only every 2 hours. About to head in to Dubrovnik and try to dodge the infrequent rain showers.
Some photos of the camping.

1970 was the last time we were in Split. Think we are due another visit.

For me, when there are a few photos (like in this thread) I prefer them as thumbnails. Especially so since we improved the viewer. Just click on one and then you have it full screen with forward and back arrows, better than scrolling as you get to see the photo all at once, rather than scrolling from the top. (y)

Yes, I can see the new viewer works well now. :)

I guess thumbnails also use less data, which will be useful for those operating within a data limit.
