Bailey Alliance 66-2
Hi all,

New poster, about to buy first motorhome (seeing 66-2 Baileys around the country). They take 2x6 Kilo LPG Calor.

Has anyone any experience on if you can get a larger Gaslow in here or if I should be looking at pricing on getting a tank installed? We plan to tour Europe, Winter in our future, so 2x6Kg wouldn't cut more than a week away without Gaslow. Basildog equally given I'm buying in June ish, any news on the smaller Gaslow tanks availability. We're buying a 66-2 based on fact the water tank is inboard, so tank heaters not as "required" as would be otherwise. I'm aware I may need to fit a waste heat tank heater

Just aware with the (very) limited storage in the van we buying we need to be careful on things, so a tank does appeal before our Winter adventures.

My van has very little storage. I originally planned to get an underslung gas tank to free up the gas locker for more storage. But it's a big investment and the availability of LPG seems a bit uncertain. So I've just thrown in an 11kg Gaslow.

Mine's a European van, so there's plenty of vertical space. But not enough to take a Calor 13kg. So I'd have been stuck with 6kg Calors.

11kg lasts me a few weeks. It's only the air blown heating that consumes a lot in the winter. The fridge uses next to nothing. Cooking isn't too bad. And when we're off grid, ship showering every other day means minimal water use, so not much water heating.

We have a few 6kg Gaslow cylinders in stock now , there are more on the way but apparently the Turkish earthquake caused problems with a component ⚠️

We had a Bailey 66-2, a great little van. I had Gaslow fitted with two 6kg cylinders fitted. I think you could fit a large one and a small one but would be tight but once they are in they don’t need to be moved again.
We did 28 days in Germany with the Bailey and didn’t have any worries finding lpg stations. We had the gaslow bottles transferred over to our Rapido. We tend to move about so are able to refill the smaller bottles, if staying in an extended stay then I can see the need for a larger capacity.
One alternative would be to fit a tank underneath and that would free up the gas cupboard for storage.

I have a Bailey 66-2. The book states 2 x 6kg bottles can be fitted. When I had the Gaslow system fitted there was room for 2 x 11kg bottles. Have a word with your supplier and seek their advice. Mine was fitted by Vanbitz, - highly recommended !

Lots of the Baileys seem to spec 6kg bottles,I don't know why as I fitted 2 of the large gaslows (?11kg) im my Alliance SE 76-2 and have taken it with me to fit in the new autograph 79-2

Because UK swappables are 6kg or 13kg. The larger ones have a bigger diameter, which there's often not room for. But European gas cylinders are commonly 11kg, including Gaslow refillables, which is a convenient compromise.

Thanks so much, I plan to be in touch with vanbitz for an alarm depending on which motorhome we end up buying once we've checked a few for damp etc (though I know it's not a big issue on Baileys except the "corners" typically). May as well get gas done same time and glad to here it takes 2 11kg bottles, that shoudl be good for a week or two off grid in winters.
