Any tried and tested tips to get greying plastic trims back to black ?

Been using this for years, with great results as long as you follow the instructions.

first step is to understand why they go grey. UV strips the oils from the plastic, so most treatments are temporary. paint is the answer

My previous van was a 2007 with mid grey plastic bumpers and rubbing strips. Not only did it look dated, but the plastic was blotchy and faded. A liberal coating of Back To Black stained it all to a deep and uniform black. I just had to reapply it once a year to keep it looking good.

I normally clean it with some wet and dry paper then use boiled linseed oil which worked quite well but trying some Autogym trim and tyre stuff which works okay but not sure how long it will last.

For those who don't know, engine oil works. Chainsaw bar oil is much cheaper than trim restorers.

AutoGlym Bumper & Trim Gel is a waste of money.

Below as it was before treatment.

That's what our local bodywork company recommends - used engine oil. Must get some from the garage.

I cleaned my slightly faded Shad top box with Autoglym vinyl and rubber cleaner several months ago and it's still looking like new... I suppose it won't last forever but twice a year or something is great 😏
It's not oily either.

Forever black as posted above is the answer (I used to detail cars in a past life) you need to prep the plastics properly before starting, but that stuff works.

Has anyone had any joy by removing the bumper and spraying it black or does the paint not adhere well?
