We're back after four weeks and one day in France. Not our most successful holiday as weather definitely put a damper on a lot of it. At the most we had perhaps 8 decent days and two absolutely awful weeks. Heating on most mornings and went out in Lake District Fell Walking rainwear. Not what you expect in the south of France. Still it wasn't all bad and we met some nice people of all nationalities. Particularly enjoyed the Gorges du Tarn - some hairy driving but gorgeous scenery and dear little villages to explore. The semi-troglodyte village was quite fascinating and well worth a walk around. Some villages short of aires but you could wild camp.

Found France rather quiet but when we visited Rouen to see the Tall Ships Armada we realised why. They were all in Rouen! Can recommend the aire at Pont de l'Arche (free) for visiting Rouen by bus. A sign says 4 Motorhomes Max. When we left there were 16. Pretty little aire on a tributary of the Seine and right by the nice little town. Also if you're in the area for an overnight can recommend Vivonne (free). Right in the small town, next to the Tourist Office and opposite a bakers and a small bar where we paid E3.20 for a white wine and a small beer.

Had the gypsys left Pont de l'Arche? We went to park there in April & didn't bother when we saw how many gypsys parked on the car park nearby
