Got a quote last year to have a B2B installed on the van but forgot to do it over winter. Just going to book it in and one of the technical guys questioned the feasibility with the hab running on lithium and the cab running on lead.

Never thought about it before to be honest but wanted to get the MHF battery gurus view on this.

The proposed B2B charger is a Victron Orion-TR Smart 12-18.

The B2B takes its input from the engine battery (lead) and feeds its output to the LiFePO4. Consequently, you set it for the battery type connected to the output.

Your technical guy doesn’t sound very clued up. 👍

Just checking. I hadn’t even crossed my mind until this person brought it up and then i doubted myself on the topic. Good job you guys are here💪👍🏻

And sorry yes you’re correct, they copy pasted a picture of the 12/18 onto the quote but indeed it’s a 12/30 in the quote spec, that’s seems more like it.

Far better to get the new XS 50 amp version half the size runs much cooler not a lot dearer and has ve bus connection also programmable from 1 to 50 amp output.

Just one other point, if this guy thinks like this, maybe he also doesn't know about disabling the split charge relay. If the MH doesn't have a B2B then it will have a split charge relay, that will short the B2B input and output, and negate all its benefits. That's why it needs to be disabled when a B2B is installed.

Also one key point of a B2B is to enable the leisure battery to be charged with a different profile than the starter battery.
