MH
Swift Escape Compact
Hi all, wasnt sure where to ask this question so apologies if its in the wrong section. Briefly, does anyone have a proper groundsheet that would fit under the wind out awning and if so, where did you purchase it? My MH is a Swift Escape Compact C205. The awning is a Thule Omnistor.
Are there any companies that manufacture these? Ideally it would be waterproof on the bottom but have a padded and easily cleaned upper surface without being excessively heavy to roll / fold and store.
I could use a cut to size tarp but was looking for something a bit more substantial.

Cheers,
Rick.

I think you will find for a roll out awning, many of us use "Morocco Mats"
They are woven plastic mats which can be pegged down and allow some light to get through to the grass below.

They roll up fairly small, they are light, and can easily be rolled up when you leave the van, so the grass if not covered all the time.

Many campsites ban (or certainly discourage) the use of ground sheets as it kills the grass underneath if left in position for more than a couple of days, which then means they can not use the pitch for a week or two to allow the grass to recover.

Here is one supplier, of Morocco mats but they seem to have sold out, but not surprising as it not really an item they sell many of in the winter!

A browse on Amazon brings up a lot of suppliers (with stock)

I saw one Funster at a Rally a couple of years ago who had a clever transport solution for the (wet/muddy) Morocco Mat.

A length of wide, white plastic, pipe with screw ends.
(Probably 6" domestic sewer downpipe, available at any builders merchant)
It was the same length as the van was wide.

Held in place (I think) with a couple of pipe wall brackets and mounted on the underside of the rear wall mounted cycle rack.

I think the wind breaker was in there as well !

Have had two Morrocan mats, the first one lasted for quite a few years but the newer one was a waste of money and fell apart after two years. The best ones are the ones by Kampa which can be used on grass for two or three weeks without killing it.

I have a Kampa Grey ground sheet/mat which I haven't used yet, as we have been lucky to get grass pitch up on rallies and alike.
I did see a guy that had a lovely piece of artificial grass rolled out as big as his awning in depth & width, I am not sure how tough the backing is, or how long it would last, but I would certainly give that idea some serious consideration next time.

Brains, thank you for taking the time for multiple replies. I like the idea of the 6” pipe to roll up and store in. Will check out Moroccan mats. 👍👍

Hi and thanks for the reply. I like the idea of the artificial grass patch cut to size. Will check that out too along with Moroccan mats. 👍

We use a Dometic awning carpet. They are breathable and available in all sizes and come in a bag.
