Forget air awnings, heavy and bulky. Not as easy to erect as some believe. You still have to unpack, sort out front from back, peg out and unfold it so you can access the inflation valves.
It does not take a great deal more time to erect a pole type. You can also store the poles seperately making stowage easier. Sold our Outdoor Revolution Air awning.
In the past had both metal and flexible fibreglass awnings. The metal frame sort was simple to erect and felt secure but died of old age. The fibreglass pole one was thinner, lighter but moved around in the wind also the walls not very vertical due to its dome shape. It was difficult to slide the poles in when wet. I understand there are fibreglass/carbon fibre type awnings where the poles clip in place rather than being threaded through, not had one myself.
Our child has grown so no longer need the awning to sit out in when he was asleep.
As an aside, we had a Fiamma wind out awning which I managed to tear off on a low tree branch! Have now fitted a caravan awning type strip with an Isabella slide in sunshade. That works well, is very lightweight and as SHMBO is nearly six foot easy to fit.

This, unless you want it to be fully enclosed……

Do you want a drive away awning? It means there's a tunnel against the side, so you lose a bit of space. Or an attached awning?

I agree with the air beam comment. I went from a poled Outdoor Revolution Cayman to a similar sized Vango Kela with air beams because I needed a fully zipped door for the cats. It's a good awning, but it's far more bulky and heavy and no easier to put up. The issue is that often you don't get a choice.

I was thinking about the pole awnings. Not to bothered about drive away awning. I just need it big enough to sit out when kids go to bed. I was looking at the attachments you can put on the wind out awning but they are very pricey.

What the best awning for motorhome
In my opinion .. none, and I've been down that road several times .. air, pole, drive-away et al.

An awning turns a 'motor caravan' into a 'caravan' ..

if it is just for protection from the wind when sitting outside or having a barbie ... a windbreaker does the job , doesn't need to be an expensive model .. just a basic beach windbreak

Our air awning is not much heavier than our poled one was. I am 5' can, but rarely do, put it up myself, electric pump would be useful. We use it for sleeping accommodation for the grandkids and did use it fot eating in, keeping out of the rain, if we were staying on a site for any length of time. It is well used.
Have now got a quest screenhouse pro, can also erect that and put it away on my own, it gets much more use, even use it along with the van and vango when away with the family. It is great to be warm and dry when it is hissing down outside, but also provides shade from the sun. Wish i had got one years ago. Get what scotjimland means but we don't allways move on after 1 or 2 days, comes into it's own somewhere to put chairs table, bike cadac remoska without a proper pack away each night.
