At the risk of giving the grumpy anti sat nav units lobby a platform to air the usual "we don't pay for Satnavs, we use Google maps" and "how much!" responses, I venture to ask the following question.
The Avtex Tourer Three has recently been launched and can be bought through the usual retailers. The best price seems to be for CAMC members at £360.
Has anyone invested yet and if so, is it worth upgrading from the Tourer Two?
I'm well aware of all the arguments about buying a separate satnav and all the arguments about Garmin based units. So please only answer if you've bought a Tourer Three, other comments will fall on deaf ears. Thanks!

I really want one but SWMBO thinks not, so it’s Google maps for me and the hassle of it taking me on car routes all the bloody time 😡

I’ve got the tourer 2 . Won’t be upgrading . I really can’t see the point . The tourer 2 has not been great and sent me down some very narrow and almost impassable roads .

We've got a Camper 780 (Avtex Two equvilent) and it very rarely sends us down poor roads (not saying it hasn't but only very very occasionally) as we've got it set up to use fastest route and restrict the roads it will use in Route Avoidances, etc.
Have you tried that?

Thank you . I will have a look in the settings .

FYI I think there are more options (from memory) on their PC \ Mac software BaseCamp than on the sat nav itself.
We use that and then load the route to the sat nav.
Some folk find this software complex and still use the older Mapsource software but we seem to do alright with it.

Thanks. One of my reasons for asking about the Tourer Three is that our Tourer Two's screen froze last Thursday when we detoured round Stonehenge. Really froze, no length of press and hold of the power button had any effect, should have been ok after12 seconds. I had to let the battery die, then plugged in the charger and that booted up the unit.

If you're having ongoing problems with it it might be worthwhile trying a full factory reset? I've done this on a couple of older sat nav and it seemed to work.

Not sure if it works for a Garmin 780 \ Avtex Tourer Two but on previous models you press and hold the bottom right hand corner of the screen whilst pressing and holding the power button. It takes a fair while before it enters the reset screen. Basically, all your are doing is resetting the unit to the factory defaults. You loose all your data!

The other way I have done it is, tap the Speed button on the screen and tap and hold the speedometer on the screen that appears. This will (eventually) open a developers menu that will let you reset the device to same factory defaults but there's also a number of other configuration settings in there. As I said, not sure if the works with the models above but maybe worth a try before disposing and getting a new one!

Don't blame me if you try it and it all goes wrong, though!

Best of luck.🤞

I have the tourer 3 but not really put it through it’s pacer’s yet, I have spent a few hours putting additional POIs and uploading a Morocco map, it’s definitely not as intuitive as my Snooper DB8500 that I will continue to use,
only updating because many new roads are not on the snooper,
I have used Garmin in aviation for many years and found them very reliable and solidly built, in comparison this is less so,
time will tell if the extra money for the tourer 3 was worth it,

My Tourer 2 froze backend of last year. Tried allsorts of button combination pushing that did not work. In the end I got a paperclip and shoved it in the reset hole. Works a treat now.

Can you change the language on the 795, say from Spanish to English and vice-versa?
Assuming you mean language spoken by the voice, yes you can. Just select an appropriate voice \ language in the settings.

I like my garmin BUT, the thing I hate is when you are driving and for instance it says turn left onto frank skinner way when it should announce turn onto A546

I've got the Tourer two and the only niggle for me is that there's a slight delay between satellite and map so its still saying the Frank Skinner way turn is 50 yards ahead when you're actually sailing past it. Anyone else have this? Would a reset Curr this problem ?
