If going north to ferry ports try and avoid A1. Roadworks and contra flows around Bremen up to Hamburg. We were part of a traffic jam for over 4 hours -
We have used the car ferry across the Elbe in the past but although we knew there were roadworks we chanced it - wrong decision.
From the signs it looks like they are working there till Dec 18

We got caught last year going North in September and it looked worse on the Southbound so we used the ferry across the Elbe and waited 3 hours in a queue to board that:LOL: actually if we had been North or East bound we would have been straight on.

They pack em tight on the ferry though,

Next month we will be coming back from Denmark on Rodby ferry and heading to Hook of Holland.

That route around Hamburg seems the only way to go..............................I would be interested in any other recommended routes.

Using the ferry sounds like a good alternative..................where is it exactly ?

Quite self explanatory I hope, where the road ends the ferry starts(y)

There is a a place you can park on your left as soon as you come off the ferry and another stellplatz just up the road, Bremerhaven is worth a stop as well if you are into German U boats.

We got stuck in shocking traffic around Bremen a couple of weeks ago fetching the van home from Hamburg, what a bloody queue it was, we were happy to pull off and stay at a Stellplatze for the night I can tell you, a nice 3 euros well spent.

Thanks for that Martin............................I think we met you a couple of years back at Totana.

Our bouncing bunny is no longer travelling with us, but is buried at Delphi in Greece................he was 11 years old,so not a bad life for a rabbit.

Happy travelling

How much is the Elba ferry going in August sounds like a good bet

Found this link about the ferry but can't find anything about who operates it. But I think it's the route we will take.
Waiting an hour in a queue that you can see diminishing is much better than stop and start in a traffic queue when you have no idea how long it will take
