davejen - people are nervous about automatics as tow cars, as they fear damaging something. In support of you I have towed an automatic Smart before with absolutely no problems. It is important though to ensure that it is in “real” neutral and there is a process to go through in startup to check that. It might help you to attract a buyer if you describe that process for the C1. C1 is basically the same as an Aygo which is a great little car. Good luck with the sale.
Btw I don’t see a break away cable, does this system have one?

Hi, Mr Chrysalis, yes indeed it has a breakaway cable, it is in the bag. I too have towed smarts, previously with an overrun cable braking system, which siezed up and cost a small fortune to replace discs and pads-that is why I upgraded to the electronic system, much better in my opinion.
Also had the false neutral once I always tell people to press the brake pedal after hitching up a smart as this ensures it goes into neutral, a bit of poor design .
