Is there anyway you can tell wether a Fiat gearbox is a true automatic or a comfortmatic by just looking at the pics posted in for sale adds.

Any advice would be appreciatted

No P on a comfortmatic I believe, but you'd be lucky to spot that on most Ad photos.
Or just msg seller to ask

Willing to be corrected on this but, Fiats from 2006 - 2019 will almost certainly be Conformatic. We have the true torque converter box on our 2003 Laika but I think they were discontinued early 2006.

Pre X250 Models were Only Available in Left Hand Drive with that Gearbox

Yes, would t mind one myself. Just missed a low mileage left hooker too
It's lovely to drive. I'll be sad to part with it. The box is 4-speed and for the life of me I don't know what the advantage of a 9-speed auto might be. A couple of years back I had a Merc coupé as a courtesy car with I think a 7-speed box, but it was a horrible gutless ride.

It enables the manufacturer to tune the engine to provide appropriate output within a very narrow rev range, with the objective of achieving the best mpg and lower emissions.

You'll maybe have more idea than me on this Spriddler, but am I remembering correctly that when the likes of Barry Sheene was racing two strokes back in the early 70's, because of the narrow power band, some of the bikes had around 12 to 16 gears ?

Yes, you're quite right. Two-smoke engines have very little torque and rely on revs for power (17bhp at typically 13,000 to 16,000rpm). I well remember that from the 60's when I was scrambling a 250cc Greeves 'Starmaker'.
The single cylinder two-smoke 50cc Honda, Suzuki and Kreidler race bikes with 16 gears were achieving 90mph on the straights and lapping the Isle of Man at an average of 70+mph.
