Occasionaly when I change from Neutral to A1, the gear remains in Neutral but only when I am completely blocking traffic. I am not too sure why people indicate that I look like a Unicorn but several people indicate that I do. Would a gearbox oil change be of help? Or is this the precursor of something more serious? My van is a Renault Master, with an Adria Matrix body. Any ideas appreciated.

Gear box fluid change would be my first step. Have the OBD read to see if there are any codes. May be a lever/linkage problem?

Sounds linkage or a sensor to me,
I don't know the Renault system but can I ask as its an auto does need to be put in neutral when in traffic.

I appreciate that something needs fixing anyway.

Not being familiar with Robotised automatic gearbox, I think it a true automatic with the option of selecting each gear or fully automatic. I tend to put it into neutral when stopped in traffic believing this is kinder to the unit, or I would be holding it back from creeping forward. I will have the idea of a 'lazy' servo checked out. Thanks folk for your advice.

I had a similar problem on a Mercedes sprintshift, three vans ago, which is ‘robotised’ ie a manual gearbox with a hydraulic pump which changed the gears, to all intents and purpose, an automatic. It was the hydraulic pump on mine
