Attempted scam on car dealership.......please watch.

Cheeky twats. How did they get his DOB, its certainly a warning for others.

Presumably there are charges though on the Bounce Back Loan taken out in his name? He cannot just return the transaction I assume.

A lot of people put their DOB on social media, just look at all the birthday wishes on here and always on Facebook. I always use a fake one and then I get birthday wishes all year !

Why didn't they let the "thief" collect the car, obviously with the police hiding outside?
Same reason as they couldn't be bothered to make out they were the taxi & take the x thousands asked for to the address where the taxi driver was supposed to take it when they attempted a scam on the old dear my wife was looking after.

CWH posted this last night in the MT.

Also, one guy is (was!) paying people £300 to set up false company details and bank accounts so that he can then apply for Bounce Back Loans - by the time he was arrested he'd been 'awarded' over half a million £.

(This may be a simplistic interpretation of it but you get the gist...)

Unfortunately my guess would be social media sites, not too hard when everyone wishes you happy birthday too.

That’s why my DOB on social media sites is the 1st of January.

Now of course that might be my actual DOB... or maybe not...🤔

Well funny enough ,a couple of years ago , I went with my brother in law to look at a car they were selling, On the phone They said It was a trade in and just wanted to move it on , a Peugeot 408 , ( £700 ) & with no mechanical faults just the age related paint /bumper scuffs , got there and the turbo was whistling like a kettle , couldn’t miss it ,The guy said oh I didn’t notice it !!!! , If I wasn’t there with my BIL he would have been coned !

The scam in the OP is specifically linked to the government's Bounce Back Loans, designed to help small businesses recover from the Covid-19 lockdown closures.
Start a new scheme, start a new scam .....

Well I would like to thank the car dealer for a very informative piece. I am sure things were not this bad 30 years ago.
