Arto 69G
Hi everyone

I'm new on here, and wonder if anyone can help?

During the early morning (3am) of Christmas Day we were in our Arto when someone tried to break in.

Eventually they gave up - which I subsequently realised was only because they'd completely broken the door handle off.

I can get into the vehicle - but only by crawling in through the garage!

Any idea where I can source a new door handle - or will I need to get a completely new door?

(in which case, any odea where I might be able to source one of those?)

The insurance comp[any have agreed to pay - but have said it's my responsibility to find the part.

And given that it's an X registration, that could be tricky!

Happy to have a second-hand bit - but because there aren't many X registration Artos around - that might be equally tricky.

All ideas/suggestions gratefully received!

As it’s part of N &B first port of call might be here

I think you will find that the door and handle are not made by N+B so you may get a spare from a breakers of motorhomes or caravans if you can identify the make, a photo might help but I think you need to be paid up member to do that.

The door will probably made by Hartal a German company that make nearly all Motorhome doors.

A bit of an unnerving experance can I ask where this happened?

In Eastbourne, just a couple of street from where we live. We were in the motorhome as there wasn't enough room in our house to accommodate all the family!

It's where we usually park the MH, and although there are houses nearby, it's not in front of any (which means it's not in anyone's face).

We've been motorhoming for 15 years, all over the country and in France - and it's ironic that something like this should happen so close to home!

If the door is made by Hartal, do you have any suggestions as to the best point of contact for them?

Or a dealer/distributor who might be able to help me?

Thanks!

That's bit close to home, we are in Lancing.
Doors and their furniture are normally custom made for each manufacture but might be worth contacting Hartal direct and try N&B as well.

Can you post a picture of it?

Long shot but I have a Hobby Sphinx door in the garage (long story - door replaced by Johns Cross after a break in).

It was a quality, large German motorhome and as there were only a few mechanisms in circulation it’s conceivable that it may be a compatible one.

There’s a Nibi Facebook group that is quite useful for sourcing parts, also a German one that is probably even better for that although you’ll need to post and read in German but someone there will know for sure.

Here are pictures of the part that broke off - the rest is still on the vehicle.

Thanks for your interest!

N+B are part of the Hymer Group of companies, and often the same parts are used between the brands.

This is one from Brownhills at Newark, who were the main Hymer agent in the UK at one time. They still sell original parts on ebay.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
Many thanks for this.

Earlier this afternoon I bought (as you'll see elsewhere in the thread) the outer handle - which I hope will fit!

But given that the item you've just alerted me to is the very last one in stock, and because I don't know if the attempted break-in has damaged the inner bits as well - I've also bought the entire mechanism (again, hope it fits!)

It looks as if I'll be able to send at least one of them back within the month!

Thanks again!

No problems Tony. (y)

You'll more than likely have to swap the barrel lock over form the old to the new.
Often a Zadi extraction key is required, pending the make of barrel. :(

Good luck with it. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
Never heard of such a thing - should I buy one if the garage is to be able to fit the mechanism?

How might I go about finding the make of barrel?

This is all alien territory to me!

That looks remarkably like it - I've ordered it and am hoping for the best! Many thanks for the link!
When you get the new ones (plural lol) just post as many pics of old v new and the collective will help you to do any alterations thst may be needed.
The yearly subs are truely the best money you will spend on your motorhome adventures.

Goid luck and keep us posted

Speak with the garage doing the job for you Tony, as they may already have one, if repairing Motorhomes and Caravans is their usual line of work.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
