Arisaig In Winter

Your kayak rack looks interesting, do you have any info on it please ?
PM me if you want any pics of it in action, otherwise here’s a link....

I think it was a Cormorant, or possibly a Shag, but whatever it was, it was too fast for me ?
You could very well be right given the wing shape.
Not the best of photos as taken with big zoom and no tripod with me! Both times!:doh:

Not the cheapest of places, it's a while since been there, but the seafood in the pub in Tayvallich is good. The beer wasn't too bad either.:drink:

Great photos. I love your posts and pics. Thanks for sharing. (y)

Beautiful place but if you get it wrong with the midges :(
Agreed..... Was here in May close to a couple of years ago, with andy63 alongside and they were starting to hunt.
Also here last summer and I was praying for high winds to keep the little buggers away.

Spent a couple of evenings in the Tayvallich Inn last summer, eating, drinking and making merry at the mid-west kayak symposium. Not so fond memories of paddling the next day with a sore heed ! ?

Are you on a campsite or in FLT mode ?

Those kayak high lift racks look really good, thanks for the link (y)

You’re welcome. Site mode C&MC Traigh Farm CL, nr. Arisaig, no leccy but lovely views. Just moved down to Kinlochleven for a night.

The first bird is a juvenile gannet, it would have hatched last year I think. They don't look like adults until the third year. Second year birds have more white on them than the one in your photos, from what I can tell, which is why I think it's a first year bird. :)
The second bird is the same I think. This is demonstrating the classic high speed dive. Cormorants and Shags fish from the surface, swimming down. They don't dive from altitude.

You’ll be fine and sheltered in Tayvallich - if you get a nice frosty calm day a paddle to the Fairy Isles is well worth it if you haven’t been before.

Unfortunately, we chose to park at Carsaig overnight and it was blowing a hoolie all night. Had to pop over to Tayvallich today, just to get a signal.
