Aren't campsites god forsaken places

Personally think a lot Aires resemble car parks and can’t understand why anyone would want to pay £1,000’s for a motorhome then sit on a car park. Of course there are some beautiful Aires out there but equally some not so nice ones. I don’t want to have to stay out all day and much prefer to sit outside my van, pop to the shower etc.,

NEWS FLASH!!

After wanting to head straight through France when we go away my wife said she likes it at Gravelines more than Strepy that was our normal first and last stop😳😳

Never thought I would hear them words come from her mouth
And we went in Baker Street and had a meal and she liked that😳😳

No
I have never experienced an Aire anywhere, and from some of the discussion comments, even if I wished to go over the water, I would personally not use them.
I am surprised that people who I would judge to have more Motorhome experience than me and take servicing, maintenance and general upkeep of their vans to keep them in tip-top order, then throw caution to the wind and allow, or end up so close to another van that safety from fire is not considered should any van either side have a serious problem.
Give me the 5m safety distance rule for your unit and awning and then the either grass or gravel gap before the next van.
How do you know that the van on an Aire or anywhere regularly checks and has professionally checked, his gas appliances and electrical connection and is not a “diy expert” ?
Safety first and foremost for me and if that comes at a price, so be it.
CCC and CAMC dont have these distance rules between vehicles for fun.
Just my take on things 😊
Good Morning.
Not all aires are rammed,,Been on at least 6 on this trip down to Spain where we have shared large aires with at least 2 other vans..Nice thing is if your not happy with an aire it's never very far to find one you like..

Not like any Aire we have been on except maybe honfluer, this is believe it or not 32 euros a night, just for the location and absence of anything else.
Just seen a bloke go up to the washing up with a mug bowl and spoon, you couldn't make it up.
Going to the market in a min then off in the morning.
If Lenny reads this he will have a heart attack,,BUSBY.

Les . Why is it ridiculous ...my experience is that most aires are car parks where you squeeze another motor home in so you are parked so close. That is a fact ..there are some of us "God forbid" who do not wish to camp in those conditions why is that ridiculous.each to there own.there is no right or wrong a at just different and certainly not ridiculous
No they are not,,,Some are but most aren't,,,BUSBY.

Why are people with no Idea, first hand, of what a lot of aires are like, commenting?
It’s the world today, they all think they know best and their opinion is the right one and people that don’t agree are out of order because they expressed an apposing opinion.

Conversely, why do people pay many thousands to buy a motorhome with toilets and showers and then not use them?

As I have said a few times now, I have never been on an Aire apart from one as packed as this site, it's rammed again tonight ,on the road in in folks drives everywhere they can push one in

I did suggest a while ago, partly in jest that we could have a fun meet at gravelines,I know the tunnel fare knocks it back a bit, but for folks down south it's as easy to get to as most of the UK, I'm not really into meets but I would be up for this one.

My shower while biggish for a motorhome is still small. I have to fill up the water. Warm it up. Get rid of the grey waste and dry myself as a contortionist.

However….. the site we are on has tiled underfloor heated shower rooms 14 feet by 8 feet with a six foot shower tray, constant piping hot water, a dressing station with sink and a toilet. There is also a bin, a hairdryer and hand dryer.

Mind you, it is 30 yards away…..

Well the best laugh on this thread is the thought of Charlie on a Campsite.

We have only once found an Aire like that, Argeles sur mer. Never been back there again.
That one is a bit grim and that's one of the posh Camping Car Park ones that everyone raves about. We love Aires much prefer them to sites but even we wouldn't stay there again.
Again any chance of telling us where please?
The last one is Berriozar on the northern outskirts of Pamplona, the road to nowhere they turned into an Aire. Free except for the Bull running weeks in July. Stayed there a couple of times, the last time in May this year.

When I designed this converted ambulance the shower and toilet were the main things in, everything else had to fit around them as what we require is a traveling washroom and a bed and cooker so that we don't have to wander about a campsite.
I get up in a morning to make the coffees and switch on the boiler, by the time we have drank the coffee the water is hot for shower, job done.
When the grey water tank is full in about three days I draw up to the emptying thing, switch on the emptying pump and in about twenty seconds it is empty.
All without getting out.

Perhaps they do in certain situations- we prefer to use a sites facilities but if we go on a rally with no facilities we will use them.

The shower was one of the main reasons we chose the current van, just ordered a new van it came down to a choice of two the smaller van won because the shower was better.

One of those posh Camping Car Park ones that everyone raves about, €11. It’s an old municipal taken over by CCP. Stangest thing this morning, someone had removed the barrier.

This is not a wind up at all and I knew what it was like before we came, so can't complain just saying how it is, and in about twelve years of using Aires , apart from honfluer which we love, I have never been on an Aire as tightly packed in as this site, look at this from sitting outside our van.View attachment 665182
Chaser, after seeing those photos I fully understand the title of the thread - it looks a god awful place 😳

You could always buy a car (if you haven't already got one) and drive to a static caravan site. Sorted. Much cheaper than spending 1000's on a motorhome. Or even better - ever heard of hotels?

Another light hearted thread full of the same characters and moaning about sites, aires, prices etc. Surprised they can afford or want to pay their dues on here instead of grumbling about the price. Used to be a great site for information, now not so sure.

Yeah got a car. Yep done hotels all over. Prefer the motorhome as we can park on aires, CCPs, vineyards, pubs, municipals, full campsites and any combination we fancy. I can use bars, showers, pools or none of the above. That’s the beauty of it. No?

There is a lot of banter on this thread . I still can’t believe someone had the audacity to walk past chaser with a saucepan on a campsite ! Absolutely bonkers 😂

Get some dates suggested and arrange it . I am sure you will get a fair few on the list 👍🏻. Might even be up for it myself 👍🏻

No one is forcing you to read this thread if you want technical info just read the technical threads instead of moaning about the rest of us having a bit of fun.

What on earth has not liking sites got to do with people affording their subs on here or the price of their Motorhome.

I have just ordered a new van well over 100k it won't be going on many sites because we don't like them nothing to do with cost. Its simple we don't like sites, we prefer Aires or wilding.

Plenty of people have a shower in the van but would rather use the block as the hot water lasts longer, even Mrs funflair can be seen walking to a shower block very occasionally if it is a nice one, as for communal dish washing facilities I have to say we rather like them for the social side, last time a couple of us went to wash up we got talking to a young lad who was camping with his DofE school mates and we had a really good chat while I tried to get the burnt on pasta out of his pan:LOL: 20 minutes later it was nearly clean but the girls thought we had been kidnapped.

I should add that we very rarely use campsites so maybe it's the novelty factor
I stayed on a site in Spain.
I’m sure my wife thinks that we are hooked up to the town mains as I spent everyday making 8 trips to the tap with a watering can and 8 buckets going the other way. I used to
Joke with the Dutch neighbours that we had a bath in our motorhome. I would go to the site block - for a rest
