Are you one of those weird campers who hates grass?

I wear crocks on site and just kic
Nobody stops me walking barefoot - the NHS only ever advise anyone with diabetes not to walk barefoot, nobody has ever physically stopped us. The reason is if we get neuropathy in out tootsies, that prevents us feeling it if we do step on eg a broken bottle. And precisely why we get the feeling all over our feet checked as part of the 15 essential checks during our annual medical MOT which we are all obliged to have.

Ruddy Crocs, wellies, Sidi boots, anything with a 'sculpted' sole, walk far more grass and other crap inside vans than bare feet do.

I happened to be looking at UK campsite websites the other night and some of them already ban groundsheets including breathable ones - and say so in capital letters on their 'Home' page and repeat it elsewhere. below our internal hab door steps, we have an additional moulded plastic step cos I have little legs, in front of that is one of them black plastic doormats with holes in - and that's ruddy uncomfy to put your weight on barefoot I can tell you - BUT!! it doesn't kill the grass. Anyway my reaction to the ban was only, 'Don't blame them - and it's their ruddy grass after all!' and smiled.

You pays yer money and takes yer choice.
I wear Crocks on site and
kick them off before entering the van..Keeps the van much cleaner. BUSBY.

I dont like grass , i have this handy little unit for below the awning etc

:) If you are going to do a job do it properly

We do put a groundsheet down, not sure if it is breathable but no yellow marks when we took it up after 7 days so assume it is. We try to get a pitch where our vango awning can be on gravel as the in built groundsheet is not breathable, kella is used for sleeping various grandchildren and me when we take them. we use a normal groundsheet rather than the 'footprint' under the tent, nice to walk on in bare feet in the middle of the night. I love walking on bare grass, don't really like anything on my feet. If groundsheets are banned we just look for somewhere else to take the grandkids, we like using the awning though when it is cold and wet for relaxing and eating, and most impotantly for me to get away from the noise of the TV.

I like walking bare for in fresh dew grass. Gets the dirt out between your toes 😂😂

Reminds me of my school cookery teacher who said, about rubbing flour and butter together when making a crumble, that it gets all the dirt out from under your finger nails. 🤮

Trouble is there are so many different rules....
Van and awning must be on hardstanding
Van on hardstanding but awning must be on adjacent grass
Must have no groundsheet
Must have breathable groundsheet
Must move pitch after a week

So you turn up thinking you are prepared and have every eventuality covered only to be confronted with new rules
Rules are ok as long as they are prominent on the sites website so there can be no confusion but even that is not foolproof

I was on a site at the weekend when someone turned up with every accessory dorema sells and had to pay for 2 pitches as the awning was huge

even better is chicken wings. you can clean a days inground engine dirt off eating them.come out spotless.(y)

Now forgive me if I'm wrong, I stayed at Jim's place a couple of weeks ago, a caravan with awning set up the same day for 2 weeks, this may be the offending vehicle, now these people admitted they were escapees from Leicester, although from just outside the covid zone they claim, I shouted lepers across the field trying to setup a containment zone and preventing Jim's chickens becoming infected, my theory is it's not the groundsheet, but the virus that's done for the grass, I of course have no substantial evidence but a bit more fake news never does any harm.

I am up there in a few weeks time. No groundsheet, so will just get some itinerants to tarmac it with some stuff they had left over from a job......... :whistle2:

Where I worked on a campsite on Mull all our tent pitches where astroturf, different size dependind what size tent.
Some hated it but most preferred it so they didn't stomp around on mud in the rain, after 2 weeks the only way you'd have known there was a tent there was if we couldn't cut the grass round the strings.

Jim, you are welcome to a social distancing coffee (from a sanitised cup) tomorrow morning, whilst you inspect the condition of our grass pitch, when I lift the the awning matting. If it's not to your liking, I'll lift the lot. How does that sound? 🙂

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

Hard standing for the Moho for us, fwd and wet grass are not compatible plus if the grass cuttings haven’t been collected it gets very messy.
