i am looking at fitting an apple play head unit in our Peugeot boxer has anyone done so if so would you recommend.
I don’t find the factory installed unit that good. Many thanks for any info.

Yes, we fitted a Kenwood unit. Like most of these, it has both Apple car play and Google. Made a big difference.

Fitted a Pioneer Apple Car Play head unit, quite expensive at £400 5 years ago.
Haven't had much success in getting the phone with google maps to work, we get the maps on screen but no volume, tried/exhausted every setting, it worked once, but I cant be arsed to try again. It may be the Bluetooth settings on the head unit or the phone is working against each other:unsure: But even with Phone being plugged directly into the head unit via the Apple "Lightening" wire to the head unit USB, we get picture no sound.:banghead: Checked both volume settings on the radio head unit, both set high, no luck.

Pull the lead out the head unit and Voila! you have google maps with sound coming from the phone.
I will have another attempt one day, just not en-route for a peaceful few days away, as the air is Blue!

I've one fitted in my car. Still remains hit and miss with connections after two years...when it does connect it's great... frustrating when it doesn't..

Having costed it up and due to age of our van the need to update the leads. We just bought a iPad mini. Which once I’ve removed the head unit it will take its place. Not only cheeper but once on site can be removed and used as normal. We use it at home too.

Maybe an option no need to buy a new one ours was an eBay find a new one , cheep and mint condition.

I bought a double din Kenwood 8020 Android Auto/ Apple car play unit but had it fitted by a local firm.
I went for the wireless version but wouldn’t if doing it again. The wired version was quite a bit cheaper.
It’s great having access to Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze, displayed on the screen with the sound coming through the speakers. The reason I wouldn’t go for the wireless is that I plug the phone in every time to ensure it’s fully charged on arrival.

I have a Pioneer Apple CarPlay head unit, it has worked flawlessly for 3 years. No problem with Google Maps or Waze both work reliably with screen map and voice directions. Probably one of the best purchases I have made, great system.

Pioneer Apple play. £1400. Certainly not worth the money. Wish I hadn’t bothered. Gps is poor, few apps work, the ones that do loose their ease of use and become clunky. And radio couldn’t be worse. Ipad on the dash was better.

If you have a tablet or iPad you use for satnag and want the announcements to come through your head unit connect them by Bluetooth audio, this method does not always mute the head unit radio to allow for the satnag announcements so I have downloaded a radio app as well on the tablet to play throw the head unit as well this way you can listen to any radio channel anywhere, only down fall is it uses data but very very little and the announcements now work cutting the radio.

My Pioneer Apple CarPlay head unit cost about £400 and has been faultless. It gets the GPS signal from the phone and the accuracy isn’t affected by CarPlay. Some head units have their own navigation and built in gps as well as CarPlay. From a few internet searches it seems there can be a conflict between the 2 gps signals. I didn’t want a head unit with in built navigation, which is why I bought one with CarPlay.
