Wife is locked out of her ipad also iPhone as she can't remember or input the wrong
Apple I'd. so both won't let her use them.
Help.

Reset by email?

Which you'd need to access by other means

Receipts not sure if we still have them
The phone was a contract one from a few years ago.

When locked out of ipad I took it to the store with original box and receipt from John Lewis and because it didn't have a number they didn't really want to do it but wiped it in the end

Just carry them round for show then!

.....joking apart this is going to happen to more and more as we all have to keep more difficult passwords.

If she tried 6 times then I'm afraid it isn't good news ..

From Apple:

Unless you made a backup before you forgot your passcode, there isn't a way to save your device's data. You'll need to erase your device, which deletes all of your data and settings. Choose a way to erase your device so you can remove your passcode:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204306

Erasing your device will not work, you wont be able to reinstall an icloud, if you ring your service provider they will then provide you with proof of purchase (mine was o2) you then ring apple support email them a copy of your proof and they will unlock your device by email. mine took 2 hours.

if you dont use Icloud you can simply recover all of your data using the link below then do a factory restore on the phone. I'd ring your network provider first.

https://wondershare-data-recovery-for-iphone.en.softonic.com/

You don't need to input an Apple ID to use either device. If you choose not to you won't be able to access or restore any back ups and you won't be able to access any App Store or iTunes purchases.

Other than that the devices will work just fine.

If you really get stuck then just do a factory reset on one of them and set it up as a new device. Set up your email account then go through the Apple "forgot password " process. Get a new password, get back into your Apple account then restore that device from a backup. You will then have a password for the other device.

Depending on your wifi and your backups the whole process will take an hour or perhaps an hour and a half.

Factory reset, data will be lost though.

Did she reply to a recent email allegedly from Apple to:
'Log in to your Apple ID as soon as possible'?

I believe it is a scam/phishing :(

No

not sure she let the grandkids play with them.

I once had to contact Apple, In fact I think they rang me from the USA..
From memory an issue with one of the grandkids ipads and passwords etc..
Was very prompt and efficient, so why not try them direct..

https://www.apple.com/uk/contact/

I recently got a new iPad.... I'd backed it all up to iCloud on the old one but couldn't remember password to install it on new one." I contacted apple and a lady talked me through changing the password in about 5 minutes.
Mine did a weekly back up to iCloud so even if I hadn't backed up on old device it would just have gone back to the most recent back up.

Thanks all, managed to sort it. Apple sent me a email link to follow to reset.password etc.
