But you’re not always. Sometimes you are stationary and will want to look at something like searchforsites, ACSI or similar and that isn’t displayed on Appleplay, and now your phone doesn’t work as normal because it is plugged into the head unit.you’re driving
So what we have here is a mobile device optimised for safe driving. Now you can argue the rights and wrongs but when you’re in media you’re in media when driving your attention should be on the road. It’s never the first 300 miles to a destination it’s the last 300 yards. The best sat nav I ever had was a black and white single din display. But you’re not always. On my setup with google maps for instance the screen is completely different to how it is on the phone screen. I loose half the screen to the written info, it put my position marker at an odd place in the map, and the maps don’t have the same features.
Yep...mine works great in the MH..the no fuss self installation is a bonus...going on a 4 month European venture starting First week in June, my phone SIM is 120gb which supports the unit well..I’ve also fitted a 9” Carpuride unit circa £180 if bought direct from the company website. It works great with the Fiat headset, I use Apple car play to access Google maps, music etc. The only issue for me has been the reflective screen which definitely required the purchase of a matt screen ‘protector’. My unit sits just above the Fiat headset. It saves disturbing all the Fiat wiring and maintains access to the original rear camera, which can be problematic with installing a new headset. A 9”screen; so far so good!

if your stationary why are you trying to use the device that is clearly connected to the car display and optimised for driving are you sure it’s a phone fault, it may be the manufacturer expects the user to disconnect from the cars system to use the device safely.
It’s an imperfect world and technology often disappoints
Lol NO is the answer, it should be the passenger selecting your music apply yourself to driving, I’m sure you do.So it is safe to play with my music collection or play with google maps, but not other apps.
Don’t think you have thought this through.
I will stick to an iPad on the dash that allows me to do what I want, when I want.
I am also anti screen tech, and drive a proper vehicle daily where you need to know what you are doing. But what you are saying is wrong. If the passenger is doing the operating allow them to use all the apps, or if they think it’s the driver, then none, but half is rubbish. If you can use one why not all? Apple carplay is nothing like they tell you it is. In reality it’s a step backwards. An iPad/iphone on a dash works better.Lol NO is the answer, it should be the passenger selecting your music apply yourself to driving, I’m sure you do.
Passengers can watch. Video, play video games etc etc etc if you want to play with your apps let someone else drive
I know this may sound rude and apologise if it does. Personally I’m anti screen tech in cars along with app driven built in features there is a lot of difference between tweaking a radio knob and looking for and selecting your favourite track. Even then tweaking a radio knob takes attention away from the road.
Not my experience and I have done both.I am also anti screen tech, and drive a proper vehicle daily where you need to know what you are doing. But what you are saying is wrong. You can get them for £300-£400. I think I paid about £400 for my Pioneer. I don’t consider it a gimmick, just progress, one less screen cluttering the dash board. If a head unit at £1400 supply only doesn’t show the best of apple CarPlay then I don’t know what will, and I’m not spending anymore on gimmicks.
But there you go. Some like a gimmick, and some don’t. I’ll stay with wat works.
I use both, have CoPilot Truck on my iPAD on a hiolder to the right of the steering wheel and I have Apple Maps on my pioneer unit JUST as a map which I zoom out. It’s great because you can see geographically where you are as opposed to just seeing the 3D directions view on SatNav.Before I had Apple Carplay I used an iPad. Now everything I need whilst driving is seamlessly combined on the one screen. I have never needed a non compatible app whilst in CarPlay mode but if the occasion did arise the co pilot would just use the iPad separately. However I can not think of any circumstances when it would be safe for the driver to be fiddling around with it.
