We have a 52 plate 1.9 Ducato based Swift with 45K on the clock. Was thinking of adding Redex on the next fill but concerned if its never been done before and there is a lot of coke/soot could it cause engine issues. Any thoughts please.

highly unlikely it will do any harm , and probably not likely to really do much at all :)
Must admit I'm not sure. I bought a couple of bottles on a deal then got cold feet actually using it.

I remember using it donkeys years ago and if I remember correctly I did see more smoke than usual until it settled down.

The only additive that I have known to have along term detrimental end was oil stop leak , which would soften the seals and cause them to swell stopping the leak but then would end with a severe failure causing a much worse leak . But it would buy some time .

In the early stages of my V40's egr cooler clogging up, Redex would put the engine light out, but only for a couple of tankfuls then it would reappear. It must have had some effect to manage to knock the light out but it was fighting a losing battle against modern "environmental" add-ons ? Might get you through an MOT though ?

I throw a bottle of Redx into my tank about twice a year, not because there is anything wrong, I just like keeping it that way! 🙂

From my Landrovers, an N Reg and the current 55 plate Transit I put fuel system cleaner in a tank full of decent diesel before the MOT to help with the emissions. It dosnt make a noticeable difference to performance but must be cleaner so I wouldn’t bother at any other time.
