Compass Drifter 410
Hey all,

I've pretty much got a new Malaga 5E mounted in the Drifter where the original Carver Cascade 2 was. Been a bit of a fiddle and still have some repositioning of the electrics/water to do.

Anyhoo - is there anyone on here, or who knows of someone, who could do the gas connection (rather than take it to a dealer)?

The van is in my warehouse at Thainstone, just outside Inverurie (AB51) - would prefer if someone could come to me rather than me take it as I haven't got the flue assembly mounted yet (i.e. there's a huge hole in the side of the van which isn't water tight), and I'd not want to permanently mount that until I'm sure that's where it'll be positioned - there's not much access into the under seat area so will be easier to be able to take the Malaga out for any moving/replacement of the gas piping before it all gets permanently affixed.

I'm happy enough pottering around with the 12v/240v feed for it, but the gas needs done properly obviously. There is a gas feed with shutoff valve to it already, although it's in the wrong position/orientation. The feed for the hob/cooker is also routed round the inside of the van and will be under the intake vent - I'm assuming that's not problematic (as that's how it was when the cascade would have been there), but it would be good to check.

Would also be keen to get the gas air heater checked out just for peace of mind - so far I've only used it on 240v with hookup, haven't quite got round to sparking that (or the fridge) up.

Any contacts/recommendations?

Cheers,
S.

It seems that some modification/addition will be necessary to connect up the gas piping so the fitter will need to have parts to hand.
Some caravan and m/home mobile fitters are Gas Safe registered and would (obviously) come to you.

It may not be of help to you but when I had my Cascade out for refurbishment it was nigh on impossible to get at the connection behind the unit (which must have been installed before the furniture was constructed) so I cut the gas supply pipe at a point that was easy to access and removed the heater with the shortish piece of pipe till attached, later to re-join it with a straight connector when I refitted the Cascade.

Well, yes.... I'm interested in getting a contact/recommendation, I'm aware of what needs to be done and which fittings are currently on the Malaga and the terminated gas pipe.

Ah, I understood your main concern was to not have to drive it to a dealer.
Google finds several mobile firms in your area.
Here's just one, based in Maud Aberdeenshire......

Yes, I know how to use Google.

I was hoping someone might have some personal experience of someone in particular in the area. But thanks for pointing that out, I guess.

You could contact this chap - he did our gas safety certs for out holiday cottages but he was very helpful and even if he couldn't do anything he may be able to point you in the right direction. He's based in Inverurie

Perfect - I'll give them a shout and see. Thanks!
