Just been reading Donnieliz' post about being gassed and the above alarm was mentioned. The price is now over £300 for a three piece set, not a lot I know compared to a Growler. I've looked at reviews and they all seem very good ( maybe they don't put up bad ones?) Anyone got one, what's your experience, do they go off when you get up for the loo in the night, or when someone parks up a bit close on an aire for example. There's nothing worse than an alarm that randomly drives everyone barmy.🙄😬

Using a similar principle I had a invisbeam alarm fitted using microwave technology in the 1990 on my Land Rover,
When you got close to the vehicle it would say Stand back from the vehicle or the alarm will sound,
Then it would count down from 10 to 1 and if you hadn’t moved it would let rip,
If you moved away before the countdown had finished it would say thank you,
The problem was once the kids realised it was a talking alarm they would try and approach the vehicle and see how close they could get before being detected,
Drove me nuts so disconnected it 😁

I’m in the market for a new alarm and was also wondering about VanGuardian. Will it trigger if you touch the hab door from inside? Or if you roll over in bed and touch the wall?
Is it recognised by insurance companies?

I’ve been tempted in the past, but I can’t get over the fact that the internals just seem to be a repackaged version of this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PQ92SHC?tag=mhf04-21. The company has done a good job of creating a more robust casing for them, but I think the markup is a bit steep if those are the alarms inside.

Has anyone ever fitted window type deadlocks to the cab doors? Would seem to be a simple job to fit and if you were sleeping in the van would prevent an entry if if the door lock had been ‘picked’.

Having got a strikeback, I'm interested in an additional alarm which would discourage a scroat even attempting to break in.

I'm assured that having broken in, the strikeback would both alert me & dissuade them, but...

...by then, expensive damage has already been done to the door & locks

I have the Vanolarm with 4 sensors on all doors, works a treat for me.
The sensors are very sensitive if placed close to the door handles. Followed their video instructions.

That was my thought in the other thread. Shame Vanbitz don't have an addition to the Raptor we have

That's the video I was looking at. I'm going to see if I can find an update from them to see how they have found using it.

Our van is a 2009 Broadway and we looked all over to find a lock to secure the hab door when we're inside. None of the modern ones would fit, then someone on here posted this one and it's brilliant, simple to use and it's impossible to open the when it's on. I think it was about £15. I think it's called a Grizzler ( or something like that 😁)

Thank you, did a search and found Grizzly which presumably the one you referenced, gone up a bit to £39.99

Wow, it certainly has, we bought it this time last year. It is very good though.

I suspect alarm systems, like a lot of things, you get what you pay for.

A £300 Vanguard system is not going to have the same features or level of security that a VanBiz Grower has at three(?) times the cost.

It depends what your pride and joy is worth to you.
You don't buy a £300 alarm on a van worth over £30k. (0.01%!)

That said, even a £300 deterrent is a lot better than no deterrent at all.

Yes, I did a google image search on the Vanguardian alarm key fob. It came back with loads of alarms which seem to do the same thing as Vanguardian, but in much flimsier/leakier casing. So I tend to think that the internals are the same but with a more resiliant case. As you say, if that is the case then it's quite a markup.

Perhaps missing the point?
Hopefully something like vanguardian will chase off naerdowell before he messes up your door with a screwdriver.

Will strikeback/growler do that?

As well as, not instead of

I just ordered one, so will comment once I have it installed.

I made my own for my previous van from a spare bit of alloy angle.

I would be interested to know how you get on with vanguardian, I was looking at the single unit to put on bike rack or on back wall above bikes but can't find out if it will sound on proximity or just tampering.

Further search revealed Coco lock at very reasonable price.

Discovered that the locking system on a 2024 Ducato is completely different to previous models and the Grizzly type devices won’t work.

Yes, I'm a bit confused too. It says "on contact" which suggests vibration detection, then talks about zones, which would indicate proximity detection. For a PVC, four doors, bundled is close to £400, without the internal switch or colour coding. Getting it into the price range of a professionally fitted alarm. If its proximity, then I think the HAB and CAB door could be covered by a single duel box, reducing the cost by over £100, and allowing the box to be placed beyond arms reach (for most scroats).
