As reported elsewhere, when my van went in for a cam belt change, the garage reported that the belt was covered in oil, so there was presumably a leak inside the cover somewhere. They don't have the necessary kit to drop the engine out, and couldn't shift the rear drums, so have referred me to Adams Morey.
A thought has ocurred: when I first got the vehicle, and for some months afterwards, I put far too much faith in the dashboard oil level indicator, and this lead to the actual oil level being higher than it should have been, to the point where I ran about a litre out to get the level back to the dipstick line.
Could the oil inside the cambelt cover be as a result of the over-filling rather than a leak?
