Looking at one of these, as they will get up my steep driveway without issue of the rear grounding. I need the 4 berth, which the Solaris boasts (bunk beds for the kids). These are a good 6m plus long, so a super long wheel base. Citroen I believe.

Advice most welcome (=;

How old are your kids? How long do you plan to keep it?

We hired one and liked much of it but some kids will struggle to get into the bunks. As an adult, I struggled to get in. That was 6 yrs ago or more on a Renault Traffic body.

If you want a 4 berth with ‘growing room’ I’d look at Globecar Campscout Revolution ... it is laid out as 2 x doubles though but they’re wide enough to sleep 3 on each bed. It’s on Fiat heavy chassis, 6.3m long.

Wildax is part of the Rapido Group. Rapido and its other brand Dreamer also offer 4 berth PVCs for families.

I think the Dreamer Select family Van offers 2 bunk beds. The Dreamer Living Van should also be considered because it has both a rear and front lounge (rare to have 2 living spaces) which would make it easer for 4 to occupy in bad weather.

Had a Wildax Solaris and enjoyed using it for several years. Beautifully made and easy to drive but the short bunks became a problem for growing kids and I found the making up of the bed in the lounge quite annoying after a while. Thought the answer was a Solaris XL but stupidly didn't realise how heavy it was so had to uprate it as the payload for 4 is not good if registered at 3500kg. Sadly the XL lost the benefits of the nifty original Solaris by being so long and heavy and the making up of the bed became really, really frustrating. The extra length seemed to have been filled with more and better kit so still claustrophobic. Also having to carry bikes outside the van became frustrating as well. Now very happily using a HymerCar Ayres Rock. 5.4 m long, excellent layout and fantastic build quality and bikes in the garage under the easy to use bed at the back. Kids don't come often now but the pop up roof is brilliant for them. Would buy another of these if I was in the market. Travelled with kids all over Europe and it still makes me smile the way that everything in the van is placed just where it needs to be.

Totally agree with Tighchris.
We are a family of four, two young teens and a dog.
We needed a useable family van under 6m to fit on our driveway.
We purchased a Hymer Grand Canyon with pop roof as it gives the following advantages over bunks.

More useable space for kids to use not just to sleep, handy for chill time, watching films etc.

Provides great day time storage.

No need to be constantly making up lounge beds and store bedding.

Having defined areas, transverse bed, poptop and seating area means an early morning coffee and emails check doesn't disturb others.

Poptop offers masses of storage when closed, all bedding and access ladder can be stored in roof void when driving.

This set up may not suit some and does have disadvantages i.e not really suitable for winter touring.
Having said that we have used it when cold without problems.
