Just started!
Choosing an awning is a nightmare for those with little knowledge aka ME!
Our motorhome is equipped with a FIAMMA F45 Plus but my knowledge of awnings is non-existent! I don't know the good brands or the cheap and nasty brands so trying not to make any mistakes!
There are so many choices out there - brands, air, poles etc so seeking some recommendations.

I did see a s/h Kampa Rally air pro 390 but making a decision and getting it wrong worries me!!

We'd ideally like to have enough space to place a table and chairs and also decant much of the clutter from inside the van. Would be good if we could perhaps sleep in it on warm dry nights :)

Any suggestions/guidance would be so gratefully received.

Cheers

John

I don’t have one and so have little knowledge but I did spend an inordinate amount of time lusting over one at Highlands End. To no avail as we have a PVC and air awnings don’t fit as far as I can determine. Anyway, I walked around the site and saw a lot of Kampa Pros and they looked great. We also examined our neighbours 390 (different brand) and it was plenty big enough for their table and chairs then half the length for porch, dog basket space. I imagine it would be great in wet weather to be able to leave the hab door open and leave wet shoes etc in. We have a Quest popup and it doesn’t solve the rain coming in the sliding door problem.

I did also research that they are quite a heavy bundle with the pump rolled up 35kg? Too much for us to manhandle, not to mention to store.

I have one I think its a 260. 2 things to keep in mind.

Make sure you check the height of the Kampa 360 when up that it will reach from the Fiamma to the ground and allow for chocs and uneven surfaces.
Also it takes 2 people to wind it in once connected. You need to support the weight of the Fiamma because it won't slot back into place because of the weight of the Kamp Rally. Hope this makes sense.
Both lessons I learned one i got mine

I had a Kampa Rally Air Pro 260 until recently and my Brother the 390.
I only changed as decided we would benefit from a drive away awning, so went for the Vango Hex V2.
The 260 was a good awning, we had it for several years and never any issues with quality.
1. It is not a light awning.
2. You would need to check the distance from ground to awning rail and check specs.
Fitting to a fixed awning rail would be a two person job as the weight needs to be supported while feeding along rail. I made a simple pully system to make the job easy.
3. The Kampa has an annoying upstand of fabric at all entry points, it will only be a matter of time before you trip over it. May be different on later models.
4. The supplied pump is quite hard work, but not too bad if you are fit. I chose to purchase the Kampa electric pump, which although a bit noisy, makes light work of inflation.
5. Whole awning inflates from any of the air ports.
6. Replacing bladders is easy, we changed all of my Brother's as he was supplied with a new set due to a manufacturing defect. Long since rectified by Kampa.
7. Never had any air leaks or water ingress leaks.
8. Deflating and packing away is easy once you get the knack of folding it correctly.

The 390 is just the same but a third longer, it has three bays instead of two. It is obviously even heavier. There is adequate room inside, having said that the Vango Hex gives much more usable room.

Any more questions please just ask. By the way when I was selling the 260 I noticed there were plenty for sale on Facebook Marketplace and Ebay, if you fancy a used one.

Ive just bought a air pro 330 and it is very good lots of room but its heavy i would think a 390 would be even harder to handle

You need to know exactly how you're going to use it. We bought a nice air awning and put it up in the garden to make sure it fitted the van, put it in the garage till we needed it and then went to a Funster rally and saw several Quest Screen House 4 that other people had and thought they were a great idea. We've now got one, half the weight of our air awning and only takes 10 mins to put up including the pegging and less than 5 mins to take down and put away. That's why my air awning is for sale on Ebay

Annie you can get vehicle connectors for you screen house
Will check them out.
Edit. I don’t think they have them for taller vans, our sliding door definitely higher than 210cm. I now remember this older thread
However, the thing itself is rather dark. I wish they had clear material, it’s why I liked the awnings I saw. I wouldn’t want something attached to the van like that and not able to see out. It seems to me to be a major flaw of the Quest, if weather inclement, then you need the opaque sides on and not so nice to sit in then.

Thanks for the replies, very grateful. Being heavy to install isn't such a great worry to me as I'd try and fabricate a 'helping hand' :) Payload of my van would be my main worry as I do cram in a lot of stuff - Lunar Roadstar 720.

Having read the replies thus far, it seems the Kampa Rally air pro 390 would be a reasonable choice. I'll await any other alternatives recommendations :)

Cheers

My Fiamma awning is attached just above the hab door, I have to have the legs at almost full height to allow the hab door to open. Not used my air pro yet it will need careful placing to allow the hab door to open and miss the fridge/oven/water heater vents. Something else to bear in mind.

Would you send me the Ebay link please?

The airbeams themselves quite chunky compared to traditional poles. I think you will also have to make sure that the door clears any beams.

We had the kampa motor rally 390 air pro. It was very heavy and packed away quite large. It's a great awning if you are staying in one place for a while.
For a light weight awning, have a look at the outdoor revolution air awnings. We recently bought one and it packs away small and is light and easy enough for hubby to put up by himself

We use the Motor Ace as per the pic. Think its quoted weight is 35Kg, comes in a large holdall complete with pegs, poles, pump. The fiddly bit is threading the beading through a long awning beam but otherwise takes 5 mins to inflate and another 5 to peg out. Need to check the central inflatable beams do not intrude on the habitation door. I seem to recall it comes in three heights. We like it, all the panels zip out if you wish or zip the top half down to use as a window (useful to keep dog from wandering off!) Has curtains if needed, large floor space, bit like taking your conservatory with you!
As others have said it comes down to what you want out of it. We love the Motor Ace as per above but it is heavy and not the sort of thing you would put up for a simple overnighter. As I mentioned above it is like taking your conservatory on holiday, loads of room to sit, eat sleep etc. Ideal for the dog, stops him wandering off, all the doors either zip out completely or zip 'half-down' to allow ventilation (bit like the stable door systems)

Thanks, I've been researching the Outdoor Revolution Eden Air 390 Caravan Awning and seeking a best price :)

I often see an advert like 'Caravan Awning. Kampa Rally Air Pro 390' Are there two different variation - one for a caravan and another for a motorhome or are they the same?

Thanks

We have the Kampa 260 as others have said it’s heavy and it’s bulky to store. We only use it as now when on a Rally or THS for a week or more. It’s the motorhome equivalent of a conservatory so gives you that extra space for relaxing dining etc. We do not have a wind out awning had an after market 5 metre awning rail fitted instead allowing more options. Love the extra space it gives. We also have a Quest screen pop up which we take when in Europe.

We have 260 and it’s great I fixed an awning rail to the underside of the wind out awning so that I don’t have the problem closing it in the wind out, we have a small hop up steps that I use to fit the awning bead.😊

Most of the awnings I see advertised 2nd hand are usually advertised as Caravan awnings - does this mean they aren't suitable for motorhomes?

We recently got an Outdoor Revolution Sportlite air 320L it weighs just under 20kg. It has variable height from 250cm to 265cm via a clever small zipped corner section. Pleased with it so far.

Caravan awning rail height is usually , but not always, lower than ones on a motorhome so don't fit

I believe (hope :) ) the Outdoor Revolution Sportlite Air I've purchased will work with our motorhome. In the video they produce it does state that if the motorhome has 4m of flat rail it should fit + the Sportlite Air has a zip that allows for adjustment of height. The height of the keder slot on our motorhome is 245cms and is more than 4m in length.

Fingers crossed and thanks for the reply
