Any recommendations for a Tyre inflator that operates at 5.5PSI (80bar)? That will reach all four wheels easily

Hi Folks

Been looking for a tyre inflator that will operate up to 5.5PSI. One that will stretch easily to all 4 tyres. Have been considering a cordless version, but they are expensive. Any opinions/thoughts

Don’t know which tyre inflator as everyone that I’ve had seems to struggle, however you can overcome the cable length easily by using a 12v extension cable. Alternatively do what I’ve done and put in some extra 12v sockets towards the rear of the van near a window.

I think they need a bit more than 5.5 psi ;)

You won't like the price of this one but this is what I use to re-inflate my 4x4 tyres after some off road adventures, it also acts as the "power source" to lock and unlock my three locking diffs
:D

Once you've coughed your lungs up at the price, I will say they do smaller, cheaper (but slower) ones too.

Ha Ha. Only talking about this yesterday. My Autograph comes with a pump / glue kit instead of a spare wheel. I used the pump yesterday for the first time to check my pressures. The pump reaches the nearside tyres as the power socket is on the nearside dash but the cable wont reach the rear offside wheel as the cable has to stretch across the cab. Its really close to being long enough to the point that if the valve is at the front of the wheel (ie 3 o'clock) it will reach, but if the rotation of the wheel means that the valve is at the rear of the wheel (ie 9 o'clock) its about 4 inches too short:(So I suppose in the event of a flat tyre I could just move the van a few inches to rotate the valve forward so the pump will reach. However ebay came to the rescue and for a fiver I've purchased a 3m extension cable complete with plug / socket. But the question needs to be asked for the sake of a few pence why on earth didn't the pump manufacturers provide enough cable especially as the pump (if purchased) is nearly £90.

Interesting thread as I have been considering this type of compressor to inflate my tyres to 85psi as required.
I have been advised to the Ring 9000 model BUT, only with crocodile clip connections to connect to the battery because a cigarette lighter 12v connector will out too much load on the internal van wiring loom.
I could have it completely wrong of course, but thinking about it, a prolonged session pumping air will draw a high current and therefore, I think, heat into the main loom if going via the cig. lighter socket.
But I stand to be corrected if others know more accurate info.

HA, I have a "JOE BLOW 2" for my race bike similar to that as it'll do 120 psi easy but I'd be buggered if I'd want to stand there and pump a van tyre up with it. :D

Discussed previously here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...o-your-required-pressure.206004/#post-3528946 .
Having burnt out a Ryobi inflator we went for the wild card option that a Funster suggested & very happy with it - the model (up to 160psi!) has changed but like this https://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-joe-blow-sport-iii-track-pump/ . Not a lot of money for the convenience at home & can be carried on trips if wanted too.

Dear Wombles,.Have you used this pump on a motorhome tyre to 85 psi or similar?
Interested as this might be a better option for me rather than a 12v one.

RAC900 is what I use. Attach to battery positive and negative points under bonnet (y)(y)

Michelin Cordless Rechargable Tyre Inflator

£35.00 but I think I paid more.

Rechargable using a mains adapter or 12v adapter so no need to have to reach around with a 12v power lead and no 12v power to overload.

It says accurate to 50psi but confusingly says suitable for car tyres to 40psi and for bicycle tyres to 120psi (due to lower volume of bicycle tyres).

Despite the apparent limitations it does inflate the van tyres to 80psi.

I over inflate by a few psi and check with another pressure guage.

These inflators are slow as performance wise they trade high volume for high pressure so it takes longer but eventually gets there.

Sounds good so far but I purchased my first unit about 2 years ago and it worked ok for occasional use but after 18 months I wanted to use it with the van for the first time and although having been on constant mains adapter trickle charge as per the instructions the battery was completely flat and would not take a charge and would not work when connected to the mains adapter. It was under 2 years and now out of warranty but I returned it to Halfords add they were very reasonable and swapped for a new one but not given a new receipt so no further warranty. According to the Halfords website this is a common problem with this unit.

I doubt this unit will last 25 years like my old foot pump.

I have a cordless one.. Had it given to me as a present and seems to do the job ok, there is an adaptor that allow you to use it direct from the cigarette socket in case you flatten the rechargable battery.

Same as this one.. Cant agree with your quote of being expensive ;) £28 !!!

I'm liking the idea of a manual pump as suggested by Wombles. Don't usually need to pump up the tyre from flat, just put a little more air in.

Tonka, have you used the VonHaus? Does the battery last? It also looks like a good option, and the price is reasonable.

Had it since last xmas. Blows the van tyres up no issues and battery has held charge so far.. Not had to blow any tyres up from flat so cant say what its like on a "big blow" But it has a seperate battery adaptor with a cable to allow use from cigarette socket if the rechargable ever failed.
It lives in the van and gets used more by my son, who bought it for me.. Guess what i have just bought him for christmas :xgrin: :xThumb:

LOL! Might have to speak to Santa about a VonHaus. Can't keep blagging my way into haulage companies asking them for the use of their tyre inflators.

Why do they make electric tyre pumps leads so short?
I bought a automatic cutoff pump from Euro parts normal price £33 used code PAYDAY 50 cost me £18:95. So went to check tyre pressures but the lead was too short so rummaged around the workshop found some bits and bobs scrounged some wire off my neighbour, made the extension lead up, and guess what, it don’t work so going next door to get ex lift engineer to check what I had done wrong. Just another thing you need. I reacon that my MH will weigh 4ton by the time I have added all the thing I might need???

This is something I posted a while ago. I had made a bad solder joint. As an update I use the extension all the time on our 3 vehicles as I check the tyres every month.

14L a minute.... :xrofl: ( and I bet that's free air flow not pressurised)
It would be quicker to call a recovery truck.

The Ring RAC 900 is very good, and will do what you require, there are loads of threads on here if you do a search but beware there are several that look very similar, Maplin used to do one for £25, went through two of those, they burn out very easily.

Ring 900 for us.
Inflates to (at least) 80psi quickly and easily. Also quietly compared with others we have.
Only downside (and it's minor) for me is the the gauge (which seems to be quite accurate) connects to the tyre but the on/off switch is on the pump. OK if the pump is located close to the gauge but the 900 has a very long coiled hose between them so it can reach the wheels.
Got from Amazon a couple of years ago when they had a few (and they do now and again) "used" but really brand new with the box damaged. From memory, <£50.

I use the von haus cordless one in the mh and have just bought a second one to use on the cars at home. Brilliant and because its so convenient, the tyres get checked more often.

Yip, that bugs me too, lol
