We have an Autotrail Apache 2012. We also have two dogs, both escape artists. We have bought an airframe windbreak set to give them a play area outside the MoHo when we’re in France this summer. I have figured out how to seal the space between the side of the van and the ground, apart from the bit around the retractable step. I’ve bought a step to step from the hab door down to the ground but I want to disable the retractable step so I can seal the gap under the door to the ground, still have a step and when not using the windbreak have the retractable step back in working order. Hope that makes sense! Before I start a complete retractable step rewire has one of you good people installed a disabler switch or concocted a wiring mod that will solve my problem?

TIA!!

Just had a look at a youtube video for the Sargent ECS328 control panel and there isn’t anything about disabling the step in its menu. Any other ideas please?

Ta!

Diablo I stand corrected!! I’ve discovered (by watching another YouTuber) that the panel has “advanced” settings!! You need to press the up and down menu buttons simultaneously for a few seconds and then scroll down until you come to step settings, here’s the video.

Thanks again Diablo!

Why disable it just leave it left in, I’m parked up in Spain and using a freestanding step and unless I push the step button it will stay where it is.

When we lock the van the step retracts, it pops out again when we unlock….

I thought that it was normal practice to wire the step up through a switch near the door then you have the option to use it or not. If you have the installation instructions then you should be able to rewire it.

Look up 'inflatable draught excluder' for motorhomes.
There was a company selling them last summer at the shows.

Basically a long inflatable sausage that you put under your van to stop the wind (and dogs) blowing through.
That way you can still have your steps, but nothing is getting under your van, not even the wind.

In the advanced menu you can choose how you want too control the step, either by the switch or on the central locking..no need to alter wiring etc.
