Another water question

Evening all.

Our recently acquired Hymer is having issues with water and I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the problem

I filled the tank and tried opening the taps and got a bit of a trickle of cold water but on inspection a steady stream of water from a smallish pipe outside, directly under the boiler.

I don't have the right manual for the van, I think it's a Hymer C544, and I can't for the life of me find anything to reset if it's a temperature issue. There is something next to the black rocker switch that did have a yellow cap but I accidentally pinged it off and it vanished. This thing does depress, but doesn't seem to make any difference.

In the process of trying to get any air out of the system, I inadvertently ran the tank dry, which is worrying me.

This is our maiden voyage and unfortunately or pitch is a bit of a trek from the toilets for my wife so I was trying to get water for flushing and hand washing

Any ideas? I've attached some photos with some relevant info.

Sounds like the frost protection valve is open. Dumps the water outside when the temp drops below 4 degC. Needs resetting when the temp is above 7 degC. Make sure the blue tap is turned at 90deg to the pipe, press the reset button (I think).

Which blue tap? Failed to find that, but found the relevant manual for the Trumatic C3400 and the button next to the rocker is the reset, but has had no effect.

Look under the van, note the position of the trickling water pipe, from inside the van trace the same pipe to the manually operated drain valve.

Ah....the blue tap is on a Truma frost protection valve. As suggested above find where the leak is coming out and look on the inside. The electrical gadget in the photo appears to be your version of the dump valve.....should it be turned to off?

Ok....found this and it may help....translated from Portugese.

The same system is similar to c6000.
The button must be in position 1 (in mine it is in German Ein) so the solenoid valve is closed, the yellow button is used to "iron" the system, in case the temperature drops from 4ºc, the solenoid valve will open and empty the tank if When the cell has a current, or when you turn on the power and open a ring, it starts to lose water, so you must press the yellow button, which "screws" the system and closes the electrovalve, so that whoever sold me mine explained that two times the system was activated and it was necessary to press the yellow button and it was okay.

If you have pressed the once yellow button and it still leaks from there perhaps the valve is stuck open.

None of your pictures include the auto drain valve, so we're working in the dark, here.
If it is one of the newer ones, there will be a tap to turn on the top and button that has popped out lower down. You will need to press the button back in and, whilst it is in, turn the tap on the top. It will 'click' and the button will then stay in and water will stop draining from the boiler.

Actually, the third picture is an old style dump valve. The power needs to be on and you press the button that used to have a yellow cap on to reset it.

Shame there are so many variations. I did not recognise a dump valve in the third picture. The previous Truma system I had (2004) had a red button, which you pulled to reset!
Hope you get sorted Wonko and are remaining sane!

it looks like you have broken the frost protection valve. a short term emergency fix is to plug the open end of the drain pipe with a bolt/screw or similar

Thanks all for your replies. I've decided to work around the problem while we're away (with 4 of us in here and pouring rain, the disruption of faffing around was getting a bit much) and get a better look at things when we're back home.
