Another tech question.

Thanks. Did you notice the bottom of the mot . Brake spring. It is hard to see .

Yes, and to be honest, I don't understand what spring they are talking about because the covers you have, I would never call 'springs' and the only other springs I know are in drum brakes which you haven't got on the front by the looks of it?
I would have sought clarification?

Yes I can see that now theres Enough room for that.
if I can bend them it they will be fitted today just difficult with a damaged thumb at the moment.
just going to check the other side today.
Our near side has the low brake warning wire running through the middle so check that’s there.

I would call them anti rattle shims, plates, anything but springs.

The near side as you can see in image 1. needed replacing.

The offside described one is missing .

at the same time on the near side i refitted the brake sensor . For some reason it was not put back in after the new shock legs were put on.

After a lot of looking it was the only springs there.
so did a search on EBay for disk Brake springs. And also springs the one that cam up were the ones for the brake pads.

il have a good look at these if i was you -- Power steering pipe/hose slightly corroded
if they dont look good change them the main pipe is rubber then metal Fiat Ducato Steering Rack Pipes (1996-2006) very good company £121 for the 3 pipe
fiat dont make them now
On my list. But from what i Can see slightly rusted a mark on the pipe that looks like it has rubbed on something.

when I say slightly rusted. It’s about 1/4. To 1/2 long and wiped off with a cloth. Now wax oiled .

I have mentioned before I think there was some history with the owner and the garage in the past.

as for the brake spring I can’t get my hand round to feel it with the wheel on. So they must have used a very small Mirror and we’re giving it more than a good mot.

I put the wheel back on to work on the other side and due to the medication I am on I can’t get it off again :sneaky:

so it will have to go to a garage to be loosened off…..

Any way that I suppose for me is good as I will soon have completed ALL of the advisors on the mot.

if going to garage why not have new pads as they have wheels off and they be good for years then
They are new. But for some reason they never put the sensor back in and never replaced the spring.

I think there were too many doing the job and others thought someone else did it.

I was thinking that and also, how can they see that with the wheel on? It may be possible but he would have to be looking bl**dy hard?
The same way they can see my 'almost non existent' front pad material......the pads are around 50%worn.

The wheel has now been removed and the spring put on again.
that’s the end of this saga.

now onto the plastic engine undercover then the front cross member an oil change fuel filter and air filter change
more waxoil then on with something else.

I can see the end of the tunnel but someone keeps turning off the light.

more. Fiamma security locks fitted that’s all the openings sorted .

then all external stuff like a 240 volt waterproofed outlet for the awning and replace the 240 volt mains in box. Still on order….

then remove all the glue from the Sundance stickers. spray paint. valance and rear bumper. It has to be a plastic primer paint.

fit the rear lights and reversing cam and I think we’re good to go .

unless eeerrr in doors can think of something else.

Sonds like your cracking on with it . Im sure eeeerr in doors will think of several more things 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Just give it time , i didnt think anything needed doing on ours , then today it was.
Why dont you look to see if there's anymore room under the fridge.
How about sorting that dodgy shower door and put that coat hook up 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I myself will be calling it complete soon with a very big list of items done.
I may even post the list and see if there is anything that I should have done or added

After listening to the discussion about imperial and metric sockets,Allan keys etc agreed
wholeheartedly.
Then Ian Bosman brings up Torx socket. In 50 years of Engineering and plumbing never heard of Torx
Looked it up, correct name for what I’ve known as star socket.
Never to old to learn something new well done Ian
Just out of interest when they brought this out in 1990 was it better product , better grip, fitting torque or just another money making stunt
Tom

Other people may have other ideas but, for me, probably the latter?

Think pozidrive, torx etc were brought in to aid automated assembly.

I am surprised that you have never heard of them, they were invented in the 60's and have been around since the 70's, Torx were the inventers, just like we refer to the "Hoover". Probably the best design ever for maximum torque transfer. One of the advantages is that they stay on the tools better during manufacture of products with no "cam out" as with Philips or Pozidriv.

maybe it’s because i have never been involved in mass production certainly never seen them till about 15 20 years ago and always called them star screws. As I say live and learn in the sixties it was slotted and Phillips’s then we had pozidrive then followed star (Torx)
I genuinely thought it was another stunt to sell yet another set of tools and equipment
Thats what it meant to me in the service of heating and plumbing
like I said your never to old to learn
