Hi everyone. Since I have already posted seeking your collective wisdom I thought I would post an introduction as it would be somewhat rude not to.
Anyways, my wife and I have been discussing retiring to Spain in a few years and one of her stipulations was that we would need a motorhome for coming back to the UK for transporting us 2 and our dog from Spain to our home and family in the North East of Scotland.
As someone that grew up hating caravans and the weekend trips that my parents made us do (bored and cold are my recollections) then the idea of having a caravan with wheels didn't really appeal. So she eventually convinced me to rent one for a few days and see how I found it. So I did - hired an Elddis 155 for four nights and for technical reasons ended up with a Swift Edge 476 for the trip. To cut a long story short - wow what a difference 40 years makes. I was amazed at the motorhome and the equipment levels. Despite some awful weather, inside we stayed warm (although clothes drying was a challange). The single track roads that we took to the West Coast in Scotland caused some me some tension but on the main roads, there were no real issues. Our dog wasn't to keen with all the racket from the back and my wife ended up in one of the back seats with the dog on her lap but I am sure with the correct packing etc. then we could reduce this to a level she found acceptable.
So now I have convinced myself that the motorhome part is no longer an issue to the retirement and I am looking to start the process of buying a motorhome and using it in the UK until we retire and then setting off for Spain.
That's it about how I came to be here, any hints, tips or warnings gratefully received.
