I intend to leave the inverter switched off unless I'm using 240, although I've got a 2000w inverter I don't have enough battery to power it. It will be used for small loads and short periods. Even so I may have to replace the 95AH battery that came with the van.i only have two plug socket outlets via our Renogy 3kw inverter, so only those work when not on ehu BUT do work when we are on EHU along with all the other sockets. i had already set it up like that for a previous inverter, but had to manually switch it to ehu fed, so didnt see the point in changing. another reason why i didnt connect everything via the inverter was that i didnt want the fridge to start running on 240v via the inverter and flatten the battery without me realising it.
i do have the microwave connected via the inverter and i recently added the water heater to the inverter circuits, which doesnt come on automatically anyway and am in the process of adding an external 240v socket, also via the inverter.
The correct way of doing it is to do a bit of rewiring on the mains side so the inverter only powers the mains sockets and the fridge and charger only work when the mains is connected.
If you just connect it to the consumer unit and forget to switch off either the fridge or charger you will very quickly have a flat battery.
Are you at the Retro this year? The inverter is just to be used for SWMBO hair dryer and straighteners via a switch.
I’ll wait till I see you at a meet Lenny HB and you can wire it all up
This is what I've doneThe correct way of doing it is to do a bit of rewiring on the mains side so the inverter only powers the mains sockets and the fridge and charger only work when the mains is connected.

i would add though, that you may not want/need all the existing sockets to be live but you may want the option of being able to switch your water heater onThe correct way of doing it is to do a bit of rewiring on the mains side so the inverter only powers the mains sockets and the fridge and charger only work when the mains is connected.
.
until you realise how useful it is to be able to use 240v whenever you want to ...The inverter is just to be used for SWMBO hair dryer and straighteners via a switch.
unless they are not in a place convenient for what you want to use ....Also if all the sockets are wired through the inverter there's no need to add new sockets.
That would be the same for EHU my old one had a "missing" socket by the kitchen, so I fitted onei would add though, that you may not want/need all the existing sockets to be live but you may want the option of being able to switch your water heater on
