Following on from the Ardeche Via Dolce cycle path on an old railway line and the Uzes to Pont du Gard old railway line thread (I m sure someone can link them)
We found another new old railway line conversion from 2017 which runs from near the Aire in Carpentras centre for 15 Kms to Jonquiere.
The surface is again immaculately smooth tarmac and a couple of unnoticeable inclines which I doubt reached 1%
We parked up at Pernes Les Fontaine's in a free Aire no facilities car park and cycled to Carpentras not knowing if they had built this section yet.
They haven't. We didn't really get lost but the main road is reasonable enough with wide cycling lane.
There is a path to follow if you went right out of the car park. We didn't.
Carpentras cycle lanes are best described as interesting but we made it to the start.
Only 1 converted train station to a pub/restaurant at Loriel where I would suggest parking and offloading bikes but the proprietor said no overnights as the neighbours don't like it.
NB times of opening in September
We did no research on Jonquieres and it was fairly bland by Provence standard in the 10 mins we rode about but nice church. They are doing up the station there so probably another bar and the route keeps going to Orange.
Mt Ventoux is permanently in sight but hazy day for photos.
The red squares show where you access and egress the via venaissia and I reckon the blue P signs are for parking.
We have always steered clear of Carpentras but having failed to follow signs we ended up cycling (legitimately) through the old town and it's worth a gander.
Enjoy
Ventoux in background
View from bridge above
Canal of Carpentras goes over the path.
Not designed for anything bigger than a submarine
Opening times 500 MLS of Heineken 6 euros
12 euros worth
Church at Jonquieres
Station at Jonquieres getting done up
Snails
Smooth and flat
Bridge
The pub/restaurant at Loriel 44.085823, 5.01981 where you can park to cycle but not overnight
Bridge with view over Carpentras
The canal is to he nearest bridge of 3 to Carpentras. Probably worthy of a walk along it and access from here. 44.067377, 5.033986
