Its our first time for a fair few years over the water having finally replaced old Hank the Tank with new(er) Hank the Tank 2. In the past we used to stay on the Aire down the bottom end of the lake at Lathule but Im wondering if we should push the boat out and splash out on something a bit nicer for a week with lake side access.

I have a feeling by the time we get there to Annecy area it will be very late June and into July so I probably won't bother with an ACSI card. Looking for something with big pitches, lake access for the kayak that hopefully won't make my eyes water on the price. :D Probably doesn't exist. We are 8.5 metres. Not too bothered about how far it is from the town etc as we will have the bike.

The only time I tried to stop at a campsite by Lake Annecy it was early September and every site I tried was full. It is a very popular place.

From this admittedly limited experience I would still suggest booking in advance - although I can't recommend anywhere as none would let us in. :)

We still use Solitaire, usually several times a year and have been going there for around 10 years now. Not posh but decently large pitches and prices are OK. Right next to the cycle path and right onto the lake.

I’d agree with DBK, we didn’t book (think it was June?), expecting to get onto the lakeside aire. No chance and every site along the lke we tried was full. Eventually no choice but to move on.
I’d do research some sites and book well in advance. Good luck

Thanks for the replies. As said we have been loads of times years ago but always used either the farm Aire at Lathule or last time I think we ended up on an Ostrich farm about 7 miles out of Annecy town. I did find Les Rives du Lac that LesW recommended and thought it looked ok so will keep that one in mind. Will also check out Camping Le Solitaire du Lac so thanks for that. I assumed by the end of June ACSI would be finished around Annecy but obviously not for all. I probably wont bother with a card though as we will be there throughout the summer holidays into September but mainly using Aires. Its tricky booking in advance as we won't know when we will be there until probably at best a week before. Worst comes to the worst ill just use the Farm Aire at Lathule. It always was a bit naff when it got crammed though.

We stayed at International de lac blue for years.

Last August we stayed with grandchildren.

Never again. It’s getting dated now. I would stay out of season though.

It’s on the lake and next to the boat stop and cycle path across the road

We have visited Annecy several times over the years, never in the French holiday season though, that would be silly.

The Town is a tourist magnet, and the restaurants are pricey, as one would expect.

Of the sites that we have stayed at, Europa was probably the best.

We always visited in the ACSI season, usually September time, but once the middle of September is past, the weather gets decidedly 'Iffy'.

A 'happy' memory just popped into my mind; as I recall Europa is not on the lakeside. There is a busy road to cross to access the lake, BUT, the back gate gives direct access to the cycle path. My mate, who cycles everywhere, had a slot close to the back gate, and one fine morning he awoke to find that both his bike, and his wife's, had been nicked by some passing ne’er-do-well overnight !

Great fun choosing a suitable site, init ?

We have also stayed a Les Rives, it has direct access and was pleasant enough, had what we needed BUT was quite a bit away from the town itself.

Thanks again. Distances from the town are not an issue as we have a scooter. We have always visited in summer so expect it to be busy. First time we went just happened to be Bastille Day 14th of July. Every bit of available tarmac had a motorhome on it. We ended up parked outside a college for three days. It sounds dreadful but it was absolutely fantastic. Loads going on, bands, fireworks, swimming in the lake at 1am. We were a lot younger then though I guess. :D

The attraction with the site I quoted is direct access to the lake.

For us it’s the swimming and kayaking

Some of those pitches are right on the lake side which is great. €59 a night though for seven nights when we want to go and I bet thats not for lakeside pitches . That would break my heart! It wouldn't be so bad if you hadn't also said you wouldn't return now.

Stuff that. I would rather stay at Lathule and sling the kayak on the back of the scooter. :D Seems to be double the price of the others mentioned. Some of the reviews are a bit iffy also.

I would never go back in high season.

Right. This will be late June early July so I might just miss the French school holidays at least although I think they start early July. Will just wing it I think. I might just go to the Aire and check out a few on the bike. I don't want to be on a site anywhere in France once the kids are off let alone Annecy.

Difficult to get in the aire and people abuse the 3 day stay rule

No not that horrendous one outside the town. This one.

If you catch it right its ok but if it gets mega busy its not so great. Certainly nicer than the town aire.
