Hi Funsters, anyone know if it’s possible to get a hinge like the one below off my ladder. It was broken when I bought the van and being a nice sunny day I decided to investigate. This one is seized solid but it’s stewing in Plus Gas. Other one was seized as well but finally got it apart, cleaned and lubricated.
I assume it’s aluminium and wonder could the right person put a few blobs of weld on it.

No makers name on either the hinge or ladder so no idea where to even start to source a new one.

Any help appreciated.

Brian

Used this extensively throughout the military, it’s pretty good stuff and you can get it in sachets as required.

Used it to fix the drip tray under our oven in the AT as it was the only thing I could think of and has done a cracking job.

Thanks PP Bear I’ve taken a look and the Belzona 1111 appears to only come in £60.00 tubs but I see 1221 comes in sachet form for about £14. On the Bay of Fleas.
No idea what the difference is.

Thanks for your imput

Not worth the risk glueing it.
The hinge takes a lot of multi directional stress and will easily break at the repair.
The area to glue is very small.

Yes I had thought of that but what are the chances of getting a replacement hinge?

Probably slim unless you can identify the ladder manufacturer.
Maybe post a picture of the ladder and see if someone recognises it?

I may be missing the obvious but where on the ladder is the broken hinge?......ok, I worked out.

Maybe someone can 3D print one.
It would be plastic but it'll be stronger than a repaired metal one.

I also think you're expecting too much getting the manufacturer to send a new one, if you find out who it is

Hi
That looks like it’s made from an alloy. 3D printing is an option, but not in regular PETG plastic which is the strongest material my printer uses. You can get carbon fibre reinforced nylon filament which is very strong, but I’ve never used it and it’s really expensive. I would still be a bit worried about even using that. If you climb onto it and the thing snaps, you could be on the floor in a heap, not to mention any damage to your van caused by it collapsing onto van.

If you Google 'flat ladder hinge' and look at the image page, there's a number of products that would sit on the outside of the tubes, bolted through. Not sure how it currently works but that might involve shortening the bottom section so it hangs under the fixed bit.

Here's one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20272098...d=link&campid=5338547443&toolid=20001&mkevt=1
That looks like a good strong option. It may even be the correct size to slide up into the ladder tube, then secure with some stainless bolts through the frame into the hinge holes.

Thanks guys for all the pointers, I think Trevor Wbm option may be worth a punt. I’ve looked at a lot of hinges and this seems to most appropriate.

Thanks again, I’ll come back if I buy and try to fit
