Fiat Ducato Mooveo
On monday 14th Aug, collected our van from storage for preparation for going to Devon and Beautiful Days festiva. Noticed the clutch stuck a few times and applied some WD40 on it and really thinking nothing of it. However called the AA out after posting a thread on here with some concerns. AA man said it looked like the slave was on its way out and official advice would be to take it to a garage. No garage would take us on such short notice so we took the decision to risk it, after all wed paid a fair bit for tickets and camping etc…
Set off on the Tuesday morning at 4am (we live in Newcastle btw) drive was uneventful as mostly motorway, but did notice the clutch gettoting a wee bit more difficult, so to say. Made it to Bath going round Bristol CAZ which was a nightmare, in reflection wish i had of just paid the bloody charge! Had a lovely night in the best camp site we’ve stayed at Bath Chew Valley Farm. Next day onwards to Exeter and increasingly reverse was a problem, it would reverse but you had to stall the van to get it out of reverse gear and those roads round that way were an increasing problem. Made it to Exeter where we stopped to fill up, and inevitable happened, the clutch just totally went, absolute nothing. AA once again called out and confirmed slave cylinder had failed. Few calls made to Vospers Fiat in Exeter (who were excellent btw) and truck got loaded onto a low loader to be dropped off. The van eventually made it onto the ramp Thursday afternoon and we picked up the van Friday around 3pm and made it to the festival. Autoguard unfortunately wouldn’t cover the clutch (it is in the small print) so we were left with a nice little bill of £2100!!
All in all a very stressful experience, which was down to timing rather than anything else.

Being politically correct slave and master as in clutch is a no no nowadays. Overlord and servant maybe more appropriate. ;)2,100 for a servant replacement seems steep. Pleased you got it sorted.

Why? Who/What organisation has said that calling it a Slave Cylinder is offensive?

Cheers

Being 400 miles from home with a festival to attend, I really didn’t think we had much choice. The Labour alone was £1200!!

The time and labour involved for a slave cylinder can be the same as changing a clutch which is a pretty major job in most cars/vans.

I understand you had no choice and your were probably very lucky to get it fixed that quickly. What was the other £900? A slave doesn't cost anywhere near that!
