Firstly don't try to drive around the Amalfi Coast...................I think motorhomes are banned in the Summer.
We stayed at Camping Zeus which is 5 mins from the entrance to Pompei and also 5 mins to the station for a train to take you to Naples and Herculaneum and in the other direction to Sorrento and then buses to drive you around the cost to Amalfi and back.............and you can relax.
Also transport up to Vesuvius.............we took the green buses that connect up to the air suspension army vehicles..................rather than the red buses which are a little bit tame.
Further South, Paestium has some fabulous Greek temples
Don't try getting into Sorrento. The roads are narrow and full of maniac tour bus drivers and suicidal scooterists. And the only convenient site is a pig to get into and worse to get out.
Stop around about Pompei. There is a railway that runs along the coast between Naples and Sorrento that you can use. From Sorrento you can then get a bus along the Amalfi coast or a boat to Capri. Both are a must do.
Agree with above, Sorrento is lovely but don't take a MH in there, it'll never survive unscathed.
A trip on the local bus from Sorrento along the famous Amalfi coast to Positano or beyond is excellent and cheap. Remember to put your ticket into the punch machine to validate it when you board the bus.
Everywhere in this region will be horrendously busy.
Just back yesterday from tour of Italy including there. There are 4 campsites literally right next door to the ruins at Pompeii. The train station is about 400m (ask for directions, for some reason it isn't signposted) 20 mins to Sorrento/45mins to Naples. Blog in signature below.
Service bus from outside the railway station in Sorrento will take you down the Cornice to Amalfi, another will then take up to Ravello. Take one of the footpaths down the hill to the sea at Atrani. Magical you will enter the town square on a footpath In a tunnel under the houses. Best tasting beer in the world. Then back to Amalfi by foot
We drove down to Marina del Cantone in our 6 metre Hymer A class, and stayed at an ACSI site there, lovely when we got there, but a bum clenching trip down!
