Alzheimer’s Research UK

jonsea So very very sorrry to hear the news about your wife, it is a terrible disease and and we can only hope you will find some light when the darkness eases.

Glynn is clearly motivated by all your amazing donations as he has just got back from an 80.5 km ride (50 mls) bringing his total to 402 kms in the first week of his challenge. That’s 250 miles of the 1000 target !! And he has now raised £720 for Alzheimer’s UK which is fantastic.

As I’m still laid up with a torn calf muscle Glynn did another solo ride yesterday bringing his total up to 455 kms (283 mls) so far so he’s well on the way. it was dangerously windy at times but I would imagine it was still infinitely more preferable than riding in the UK at the moment. Respect to everyone that is battling the elements to achieve their fundraising aim.

After a few busy days with visitors and a couple of dangerously windy days Glynn made it out again yesterday and did 20 miles and again today doing 33 miles so his grand total is currently 361 miles! He has also raised £797.32 so far which is amazing!! It’s turned colder here in Spain so he’s had to start wearing a jacket but I’m sure it’s still miles better than the weather in the UK. I’m hoping to be fit enough to rejoin the rides in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Carol, Have just caught sight of your challenge, our thoughts are with Jonsea and yourselves at this very sad time. Sent a little something to help Glynn on his way, think he may have to stretch his target. Hope you are back in the saddle soon, good luck to you both on the ride. Martin.

Wow, thank you Martin. That has taken us well over the £800 mark. Very much appreciated, Kerry & Glynn

Well the good news is I’m finally able to do some gentle cycling so we’ve managed a lovely 45km ride today and it was a very nice 24° which made for a very pleasant ride. Glynn is pleased to have me back cycling with him and he has now done 435 miles of his 1000 target so he’s hoping to hit the halfway mark before the end of this month. We’ve had friends staying for two weeks so lots of distractions but he’ll be back on it with a vengeance after Thursday. He has now raised an incredible £823.87 so far which far exceeds his initial target of £150!

jonsea I hope you're not feeling too bad. In a month time it'll be a year since my dad has passed because of Alzheimer. (23rd of december). I know it is hard to hear or read but there's no more suffer, and you need to rest and recover. Fortunatly there are lots of friends on here to help you if you're feeling down. If you need to talk , no problem... PMs are there for that too!

Amicalement
Frankie

Glynn was really keen to make the halfway mark of 500 miles for his Cycling Down Dementia challenge before 1st December so we were up and out this morning with the aim of cycling 48kms however we ended up cycling 62kms by the time we’d found a coffee stop. This makes a total of 820.8 kms (510 mls!!). It wasn’t all plain sailing as we did hit a traffic jam on the canal path (and a very curious kid :giggler:) and Glynn suffered a front wheel puncture!! Hopefully we can reach the 1000 mile target before the new year although the forecast for the next few days is severe heavy rain . It was then a quick shower and change before heading to the Castle at San Miguel de Salinas with Sandra and Colin (Armytwowheels) to enjoy the menu del dia. A very pleasant way to spend a Saturday .:cycle::beerchug::giggler:

It was a lovely day for us too! I am sorry it was such a short visit, but maybe longer next winter.

Super proud of my amazing husband Glynn for smashing his 1000 mile target today well ahead of the January 31st deadline. When I told him how proud I was was he said that cycling 1000 miles was easy, it's all the people and their families affected by dementia that have it hard. I think he forgot he is one of the those affected by it and I'm also immensely proud of how well he has adjusted to coping with the effects this awful disease has had on his mum. In spite of missing some rides when I tore my calf muscle I have done a very healthy 605 miles with him so I will also pass the 1000 mile mark before the end of January although after cycling 100kms yesterday and 53kms the day before I’m having a few days off!! Happy Christmas everyone :xThumb:

Well done I hope they do get a cure one day for this disease merry xmas to you both have a well deserved rest

Wow we’ve had some amazing Christmas presents this morning by way of donations from Funsters to Glynn’s dementia challenge. He has now raised £934.45 so he is going to keep going and see if he can reach £1000 to match his 1000 miles!! Happy Christmas everyone and thank you very much :xThumb: :xThumb: :xThumb:

Well I just wanted to give an update as I’m delighted to say that I passed the 1000 mile target today. Although it is Glynn’s challenge I always intended to ride the 1000 miles with him until I tore my calf. Glynn reached his target on Christmas Eve so has continued to clock up the miles and has now cycled 1442 miles and raised £1025 which is incredible. We still have a few days to go so Glynn is aiming to pass the 1500 mile mark which to be fair is a fairly easy target in the lovely Spanish climate.

Well we made it to the end of the three month Cycling Down Dementia challenge without any crashes and only 8 punctures for Glynn   . Glynn pledged to cycle 1610 kms (1000 mls) and hoped to raise £150. He has cycled 2442 kms (1517 mls) and so far he has raised £1062.17 which is absolutely outstanding so thank you to everyone that has supported this worthy cause . We are truly blown away by your support. I was determined to cycle 1610 kms too in support of Glynn and this week I passed that milestone and my total is 1682 kms (1045 mls).:Grin:.Lets hope a cure for this awful disease is on the horizon!!
