Lots now
We used to use the beach unofficial aire but alas that's no longer available.
We quite like Alvor town and I see they have a campsite that's only a 15 minute walk into the restaurant area of town.
Has anyone stayed there and would they recommend it.
Thank you.

A few years since we used it but back then the pitches were nothing to shout about but a nice swimming pool. Much prefer the old Aire

We stayed there for a couple of nights two years ago. Large site. Nice enough, although lots of long term residents, which made it seem a bit cliquey.

I think BreweryDave is based there, so could give you more info.

As you say, Alvor town is lovely. About 15 minutes walk down to the centre from the site.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. It's a nice enough site and well located, but the pitches are very variable, There are some decent ones at the top of the site, but many of the others are very sandy and uneven, and there are lots of trees.
We enjoyed it for 3 nights, but were a bit worried about whether we'd be able to get out of our sandy pitch.
Definitely best to go and have a look round before committing yourselves.

Honestly it’s not our favourite for tourers and as like you we stayed at the beach aire and loved it many times.

However the residents are friendly (most of them anyway 😉) and it has a great location for the old town and a 15-20 minute walk to the beach - at least that’s what the more energetic tell us.

If you’re in a big van I would choose the time and day you arrive to try to get a decent spot.

We stayed last year & tried again this year as we really like Alvor.

We turned up & they just said have a look, see if you can find a space (we couldnt).

I'd second what Bellabee says....

We love Alvor and we used to stay on the Municipal Aire, which was closed when Covid hit and has not been opened since. Overtaken by weeds now..

We stayed at Camping Alvor over Easter 2022. It is an acquired taste. Most of the pitches for motorhomes are under trees and not well marked out. We ended up with a very good large pitch with water and waste very close by. We would go there again and we found it was closer to the town than the Aire.

As already posted funster BreweryDave and his wife, Jackie are now permanently there in a very nice Chalet.

In a MH as a tourer, there are good spots at the top of site, more rustic down the back. It's good, but not spectacular, but what it is, is, its in Alvor, and a very short walk to everything unlike most official places on the Algarve.
The biggest downside, is.............I live there 🤣😉

As I've never met you I'm inclined to chance it 😜

We stayed in may this year in the RV, got a spot down the bottom on the island, no marked pitches down there it's a free for all.
We liked it, good swimming pool and cheap wine in the bar or restaurant and close to Alvor.
We were told the site owners son is taking over from the present management this year, no idea if that will make any difference.
Only Portuguese credit cards accepted, otherwise it's cash, there's a hole in the wall machine outside reception.

Put it like this - if the old Aire was still available we would go back to Alvor but not otherwise!

We stayed there in June. We loved Alvor, the site is a free for all. They will say there is space and you literally just drive around and find one. On the first scout around We though it was pretty full but as you look closer you realise there are spaces, they just aren't that obvious. Its a bit of a free for all. They aren't pitches as such just spaces in amongst the trees, most of them level but the site is on quite a hill. There is no bottom gate so you have to walk up to reception to exit the site. It's a nice walk into town, about 15 mins. There is a great supermarket about 3 mins walk from the entrance. Not the easiest to find as it's under a new apartment block. Really nice pool, Toilets and showers were clean and plentiful. I think we payed €19 a night with acsi card. I'd probably go back.

We arrived yesterday, nice to see Alvor again and had a lovely evening watching the sunset and then a meal at
The campsite is a bit tight and as previously mentioned it has a weird system of areas with a parcel of land that's all yours and then an area which is a free for all system, if you can fit in then do so with no regard to space or consideration for others.
Saying that we are happy and if somone moves on today we may rejig our location.

One of the best restaurants in town, and ‘Pull the Bar’ next door along the passageway is well worth a visit for drinks👍
A word of warning though, after a week in Blighty I’m back tonight🤣
…….probably go for fish n chips with cruiser at the upstairs site bar, the Jolly, on Friday around sundowner time😉😎. ( tend to avoid the downstairs bar these days😳🤬) …….may see u there 😉

We enjoyed the meal so much so we have booked back into the same restaurant for Friday at 8.45 pm so maybe catch you both for 1 glass.
