My apoligies if this is a frequent question, I've done searches and looked in sub forums and cannot find an answer so...has anyone done a list or thread covering what is required (the basics) upon buying a new motorhome. Many thanks

Thanks, I've had a peruse and can't find anything remotely related I'm afraid (I now have a recipe for low carb bread and can download lots of manuals). If there isn't a list as such, I can obviously sit down and try to recall what we had in our caravan many years ago coupled with the common sense stuff but we are bound to miss stuff that would be very usefull.

The inventory is very usefull, thanks. (I wasn't clear enough in my post...it made sense in my head when I typed it!)

Much less than I had anticipated. Wish we had gone away first, see what we missed and then bought stuff. Ended up with loads of cr*p that now lives in the shed.
I suspect that that will be a good plan for us. We can obviously take everything from the house for the first 1 or 2 nighter away and take it from there
Corkscrew.
That would be THE one thing we would never be without.

Make sure you are provided with owner's manuals for both the base vehicle and the motorhome habitation part.

Also a Bill of Sale to prove ownership, which the V5c specifically does not do.

One piece of advice: When you are at home think of all the things you 'take for granted' as being in a drawer somewhere - buy one for MoHo use only.
After years of Mohoing I only just bought a collapsable bin for decent bin liners!

I'm just about to try to do a list myself for the guy who is hopefully buying my van. As he's never owned a van/motorhome before it will be the basics such as:
Cable reel
European hook up adaptors
Levelling ramps
Gas bottles
Toilet fluid
Bag of tools
Rechargeable drill with bits etc.
WD 40, silicone spray, spay oil
Cable ties
Length of hosepipe, hose/tap adaptors
Work/gardening type gloves
Collapsible wash bowl
Phone apps such as Search For Sites, Park4Night
Collapsible table/chairs
Awning tie down set
the list goes on..... and on!

Can't remember how we knew what to take but the idea of just taking everything you think you need from the house. if you're going away just for a couple of nights first to test it, is a good one.
Bedding. Our settees make in to a bed and we found we needed a memory foam topper, we have a duvet underneath and on top, spare blanket and two pillows. We also have change of bedding because we go away for months and sometimes you don't want to do too many washes. Same with towels. I have a bathtowel but John has an ordinary size one plus one each spare. Plus kitchen towels and tea towels.
I could go on and on. Basically it's what you need in a house but scaled down because of space.
We started off with melamine plates etc, some if which we still have after 14 years, but soon bought two crockery pasta bowls, 2 smallish dinner plates and two mugs.

Thanks all. We are going to look at a nearly new MH being sold privately as local as we can find (150 miles away!) I get the impression that they're packing in with MHs but will obviously find out for sure soon enough. With any luck, some of the stuff I'd not have thought of will stay with the van (should we actually buy it)

a box to hold all the screws, screw covers and other little bits that you find that have no obvious home.
