Aires to open in Dumfries & Galloway motorhome drive

That’s a step in the right direction. Hopefully this type thinking might filter down to some other councils.
We used to holiday in this area as kids and have it on our re visit list.

I hear Manchester is to open MH Aires, but they place them slap bang in the middle of their charging zone. Well, you have to raise the cash where you can.

That was a joke.......................................................so far !

Quote from the Manchester Evening News. "Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the Government have announced that Manchester's clean air zone (CAZ) has been put on hold to find a solution that is fairer to local businesses and residents".. So no idea yet when the start date will be for this.

I found Dumfries and Galloway - the little we saw- very unfriendly when we were there in early January. Closed campsite sites and strict parking with very few wild stop overs. I was disappointed. This might tempt be back again !!

You must have been looking in the wrong places as we have loads of wild camping places here.

Spot on Lorger, loads of places to park, not surprised about sites being closed, weather isn't good in January. I was out in the North Rhins today and saw three vans on the road in a few minutes so there are a lot of people about. I would be surprised if Aires were open 12 months anyway.

I did say the little I saw!

Like most other places, you'll find the people a lot friendlier when the weather is better:cool:

I definitely think these councils need to open more Aires all around Britain to encourage more people from abroad as well. Look at income it would generate in the area!

Interesting. Great for areas who already have hard standing. I wonder how far £5k would go towards creating a CS.

Not down the Galloway Peninsula itself there aren't. Best you've got AFAIAA after 3 years up there are.......

South Rhins- New England Bay and the farmers fields at East and West Tarbert Bays (£2.50 p.p.p.n) EVERYTHING else now has No Overrnight Stay signage from either the local authority or local Estate owners.
North Rhins - New aire at Wig Bay.

I would also say that from personal experience, the attitude of those in the North Rhins is noticably more friendly than those in the South Rhins where if you listened to local gossip and read the 2 x local village facebook pages, they are vitriolic to say the least towards wildcamping motorhomes.

In general a large majority don't support the views of the few who post unpleasant comments on Facebook pages. One of the many reasons I've never used Facebook.
