aire near Chalons en Champagne

Travelling down from Calais to Annecy. Does anyone know of an aire within easy (flat) cycling distance of Chalons en Chamoagne? Can't find anything listed in our info. Would consider any other attractive aire with easy cycling near other pretty town on/near our route.

Hi

The nearest one I have found and stayed on a few times is at Mareuil Sur Ay. It is next to the river and within easy cycling distance of Epernay but I have not tryed going the other way.

Stayed at that site in June and it is very handy for Chalons. There is a good Bakery across the road, pitches are spacious, good motorhome service point, very easy access but the toilets are very basic (but clean).

The gates are locked at night and meant to open at 0700hrs. When we were there, there were no staff to be found, the sensors that are meant to open the gates in an emergency didn't work, the pedestrian gate was locked and the emergency bell to call the staff remained unanswered. By 0800hrs, a queue of 3 or 4 motorhomes and a couple of caravans had formed, as well as an elderly French cyclist desperate for bread. Tempers started to fray. The French driver was all for ramming the gates and he was being held back by a Belgian couple. The cyclist was ringing the police, mayor, fire brigade and anybody else he could get hold of. The Dutch motorhomers pulled out two camping chairs and sat there drinking coffee and I just hung around laughing with an equally laid back German (we were not in a rush). Eventually, the owner(?) came out in her dressing gown, there was much shouting and gesticulating, she opened the gate, screamed again at the cyclist, who was obviously giving her some important career enhancement tips, and then flounced back to bed.
