Got the dreaded airbag warning light this morning when I was taking it for a service.2014 Fiat Ducato.
After reading about this on here I think my best course of action would be to have the airbag ecu replaced with a new one rather than sending it off to be reset.
Also I Ihave a fiat dealership near do you guys think I should have it fitted by then or by an independent garage. Ie where it's being serviced now.
Any advice greatly received.

It all depends on the individual garage but main agents tend to be more expensive. However an independent local garage that is competent would be my choice if warranty issues are not a problem.

Take a look at one of Bob Earnshaws vlogs on YouTube, he seems pretty well versed in this issue with an easy resolution

Fiat Professional garage will give a two year warranty and should fit the latest version.

I have a 2019 Fiat Ducato 1st time I had an airbag failure light was April this year as still in the 5 year warranty period I contacted Fiat who advised I take it to a Fiat professional garage to check.
They diagnosed a fault code B0102 possible earthing issue they reset the light & all ok until about 2 weeks ago when light back on just before MOT due.
Took it back to the garage they replaced the ECU no charge & also did a low mileage service & the MOT
All ok for now.picture of new ecu below

I have had the seatbelt warning light wire severed by turning the driver's seat on 2 consecutive motorhomes that caused the airbag light to come on, once repaired the light went off and stayed off.

I know one can buy a brand new one from the likes of Coastal motorhomes and they're between like 300 and 700 pound depending on which one. But the it has to be proxy aligned. Not sure if there is anyone on here that has the knowledge and equipment to do that could be a nice little earner.

I recently removed the driver’s seat on my Ducato and had to disconnect the plug/socket under the seat. I noticed that caused the air bag light to come on on the dashboard. Might be worth checking the plug is still in place in the socket (yellow and black if I remember correctly).

Just had mine replaced by fiat for about £350 with warranty, took them 3 attempts to get one to work. Wouldn't want to have gone through that myself having to keep retuning units, for a small saving.

Does the warning light coming on mean that the air bag doesn't work?

It has just happened to me, but intermittent

I have just bought a 2103 Peugeot Elddis which has had the Airbag ECU replaced in 2020 at over £500 at the main dealers.
I seem to remember a guy at work had to get his done after winter, and I think he used to disconnect the battery.
Is this a battery related issue?
I ask as mine will be in storage so will have to hope the solar panel will keep the battery topped up if a low voltage battery causes the problem

Some say it can fail due to low battery voltage I'm not entirely convinced though.
Just play save and keep the battery charged at least it will eliminate one problem.

One other easy antifail suggestion was to add another earth lead to one of the base bolts.
( after cleaning up the contact surfaces of course)

I’m not convinced either Lenny HB mine came on whilst I was mid journey on the Thursday and had been in use the previous weekend, the batteries were at a good level👍
New one fitted and proxy aligned, job done👍

I have read somewhere but can’t find it, but there was a suggestion that condensation in the air bag ecu can play a part.

The last fault I had was an internal earth issue which was a “ mechanical “ repair, so far so good. 8 months now.

Explain this a little more please - base bolts of the ecu?
As said the ecu is attached to the van floor with three bolts, invariably on a painted surface, but this is the earth. Just attach a cable to a cleaned up bolt / contact surfaces and run to a good earth point closer to the battery or to the battery negative itself.
It's a potential improvement.
