I am looking at changing my engine air filter, any recomendations for a brand? Going on various sites the prices can vary from £11 up to £40. what would be the difference between the top and bottom end price range?

Just go for a known brand,
hengst, Mann, blueprint at your local motor factor they will advise you 👍😁😎

I fitted a K&N air filter, not cheap, but you never need to replace it, only clean it and refit, so cheaper in the long term if you're panning to keep your van.

But you have to buy the special cleaner and oil to recharge it 😐

Mahle, Bosch, Mann, would be my choices. Wouldn’t touch Blueprint or shop own brand stuff. Also wouldn’t go near a K&N these days or any oiled filter as they cause MAF sensors to misread, and can kill MAFs

I've never found any difference between the cheapest and the factory fitted filter on any car or van so may as well just go cheap. The big cost is moving the box around the world and not what's in the box.

I wash mine out in soapy water and use the K&N recharging oil which is not expensive (recharged my filter 3 times so far, and I still have half a can left).

Not had that problem in 6 years of using the K&N filter on our van, probably down to those that over oiling the filter and don't let it drain properly before fitting.

Just purchased a K&N air filter - Ducato 250 2008, what is the issue with MAF sensors?

Mann or Mahle for me 👍
Replace with a new one when needed, I don’t subscribe to the washable, so called performance filters, they let more air in because they have bigger holes, therefore they’re oiled to catch some of the crap the holes don’t stop.

Although there are some good ones out there, my favourite is WIX.
It fits top and bottom like a glove unlike the Man one I bought a few weeks ago, it was a fraction too long and had to be squeezed down.
I discarded it! 🤔

Mann or Mahle for me too. I ocassionaly have a hoover and a rotate. I have never seen a filter (ive fitted)come out anywhere as bad as the best ive seen from any second hand vehicle ive bought (even yes sir full filter service done). The cleanest filter we had was when wife paid for a service (new wife and new plaster on hand/arm) when I got her to lift the cover there it was soo clean i could see straight through it, ie not one fitted. Since then ive always done own service except for new vehicle first services.

When I put my MANN air filter in this was one of the features I liked about it. I initially thought it must be the wrong size until I realised the top and bottom gaskets squished down nicely to give a very good seal.

Don't to forget to change the pollen filter as well whilst you are at it. I changed mine when I purchased the van and it was very black and clogged despite the van having a full Mercedes service history. The air circulation is now ten times better when clearing the windscreen of mist etc.

I agree, in the past when I have bought MANN I have had no problems BUT, I forget where I bought it (G S F I THINK ) it had a pinkish rim (never seen this before) and it was slightly oversized.

I felt that, although I could have fitted it, it would have been crushed slightly causing the folded sections to widen.

I have never experienced this with the Wix filters that I get from my local JAYAR stockist.
