Aframe towing

I towed a 2010 Smart on an A-frame but there is a false neutral position where the gear selector appears to be in neutral but the box is still engaged. Get it wrong and you will wreck the gearbox. I changed to a manual VW Up which is much easier to tow.

Bloz is new to the site and may not know that GTW means Gross Train Weight, which is the weight limit for the towing vehicle + towed vehicle.

The plate near the engine may be Fiat/Peugeot/Ford plate not the one put on the vehicle by Bessacar after their conversion. For loading and licensing purposes of the motorhome the weight that matters is the Revenue Weight shown on your registration certificate V5C. This web site may help you work out what weight you can safely tow.

My mh is plated at 3850Kg with 5500Kg GTW on an Alko light chassis. It would essily cope with a Smart for 2 or VW Up etc

Can a 2012 smart for two be flat towed on A frame
Can’t give a definitive answer but certainly our 66 plate Smart for two was NOT A frame compatible so towed on a smart specific trailer. We don’t tow anymore but still have the trailer which I need to get round to selling should it be of interest.

We tow a smart 2011. It tows perfectly well as long as you remember to make sure it’s in neutral.

Not sure what year but there was a model change and after this towing a smart was not possible which is a shame.
I think things changed around 2016, but don’t quote me on that.
